Ideas for flea control.

I have never had a problem with fleas until now. This am I found a flea on my little 13 yr old shihtzu. We have a new dog & he has been going to park so I think that is where we r getting them. Now I have read all kinds of reviews on what is good, on natural remedies, I could sure use some suggestions. My older one is allergic to everything! I have tried Frontline before on another dog we have & it did nothing! What about K9 Advantix II? I read good reviews on amazon for it. A couple of negatives but mostly good. Is it safe? Any help or ideas wd be greatly appreciated! Oh & what about garlic? Thanks!
