Re: Idea for QVC. How about rewards for long term customers

@BalletBabe   Evidently the posters who complain so much about free shipping for 15 items for new customers don't realize how important it is to attact new customers.  That is the important thing to keep QVC up and running.  I think most, not all but most, of the complaints are from long term customers which means "up in age" and not buying as much as we did previously.  Their purchases are a drop in the bucket.  QVC needs new, younger shoppers to remain an active business.  Whatever they can do to attract them is OK with me.  I want QVC to remain in business and those who have been customers for years are not going to do it - must have new business.  I truly don't understand why all the complainers don't see this.

I am an up in age very long term customers.  I still buy but not nearly as much as I did in my acculative younger years.  I don't buy as much anywhere now and many places I used to shop from, I don't purchase from any more just due to lack of need.  QVC realizes their future is not coming from long term customers but from new purchasers.

Would rewards for existing customers make you buy more at QVC than you are now?

Because that is what needs to happen.  Enough customers need to buy more products that QVC can turn a decent profit.

That is all they care about.  Not being fair to anyone.

Very true @KathyM23. The idea is to generate additional sales from new customers. The current customers / sales have resulted in the financial results that have been posted recently. Customer traffic is a better indicator of financial health than sales many times in retail.

@bonnielu There are so many stores, restaurants, etc that have rewards programs for repeat customers/long term customers. I think something would be very much appreciated here.
But! How would that benefit QVC? All those rewards and discounts are given to generate business. They are not gifts to loyal customers. They aren't a display of gratitude. They are strategically instituted to draw customers into a business. QVC already has us. We've been shopping for years or decades and while perks are appreciated; they aren't needed. They aren't deal breakers. They won't generate more sales from us.

@chrystaltree NOT TRUE. I don't automatically buy from QVC. I shop around.
I've purchased a lot from Overstock.com and they continue to send me coupons, which I use regularly. There are other sites I could buy from but if it's for the same item, and their coupon makes it less expensive with free ship... bingo! Perks are given all the time from so many places to keep you coming back. Even the restaurant where we take out pizza gives us a free pie for every $$ we spend. LOVE!
There are SO MANY examples...
Then shop at those places because QVC hasn't initiated what you are looking for in the nearly 40 years I have shopped with them so it's a safe bet they aren't going to start now. There will be no free pizza after we buy 10.

@chrystaltree  I am NOT going to argue with you.  I'm just presenting EXAMPLES of some of the things stores do.  I'll continue to shop where and when I want, thank you, and continue to post my opinions and give examples. I'm not saying anything has to change....   but,  if you look around,  it often does!

@KathyM23  I understand that BUT you can't drive away your Customers that have been loyal to your Company.   There are other ways to build your business besides tick off your loyal customers.   When the Company was just starting out , they needed customers as well.  What did we get?  $5.00 off our first order.  That is it.   I personally think their competition is not going to help them grow  (Amazon for one)  Amazon treats their customers right.

@ruthbe Oh my gosh, you are so right. A rewards program works and I realize this especially after my purchase yesterday.

I wanted a specific perfume. It was the same price at every site I went to, Macy's, Sephora, Kohl's, Ulta, not sure if any other sites had it. I ended up purchasing it from Ulta due to their rewards. The item was excluded from any sites promotions (Sephora 10% off, Macy's sale, etc). Ulta was the only one, yes I paid the full price, I received points leading to dollars on future purchases. I also received free shipping.

@cjm61   To me that is what is killing the Q.  You can almost always get a better deal if you shop around.   These new people will not stay here, when they are going to do better elsewhere.  Take the Vitamix this past weekend.  That was a great buy and they probably got new Customers.  Will they stay???  I doubt it.  Let's talk about shipping?  I shop many places and Q has majot shipping issues.  How about all the Internet issues??  The cost of shipping if buying multiples is insane.  New Customers are only part of their problem.

A lot of times I watch IKWD.  Seeing something new , I do a search and 9 to 10 times, I can get that same product cheaper with free shipping.

Not to be rude, but some of you are not realizing or refuse to recognize how dire the situation is  for QVC, you had best hope that they are still here in a few years.

If you doubt my word you need to take a gander at how much money they have lost in the 3rd quarter, and how they have recently had to sell some of their buildings including the headquarters (yesterday) even though they plan on leasing it back, to raise funds.

I see why they are trying to attract new customers, not sure if it's enough to right the tilting ship.

I would personally miss QVC if they were not around anymore, but all is not right.

@icezeus  A lot of us would miss it but bottom line, shoppers will shop for the best deals and Q don't have them.  New Customers will not save them.

I think that if they offered a discount for multiples that would help a lot.  There are many times, I would pick up 2 or 3 of something but not when shipping will be 3.50  or 5.30 times 3???  NOPE

I think that based on recent news and the way the economy is going now, it is not likely you will see many big perks and "customer appreciation" programs.

The one that they are doing currently, likely won't cost them a great deal as I'm sure they have figured out about how much income may or may not be viable for this freebie.  I think it's time to just let it go because they seem to need some cash and giving more of their earnings away won't fix their problems.

@BalletBabebut people stayed because the business model worked for them.  I shop at plenty of places a lot and don't expect all the freebies y'all are talking about.  What drives people away a lot quicker than freebies is unreliable service and poor customer service.  When people find something that works, they stick with it.  Thus, the reason the Q did so well for such a long time.

Our economy faces rough and tumble times and it does affect discretionary spending.  A lot of what the Q sells can be found elsewhere for less, so if someone NEEDS clothing, they can by it elsewhere and then use the Q for other things like treats or something special from a brand that the Q has because it's wanted.

If QVC offered products that one NEEDS to the equivalency of other places that can offer same or similarly manufactured items for cheaper, then why haven't they done that yet?  Because this business model relies heavily on discretionary spending.  Meaning, that money you have set aside after you paid your bills (all of them) to splurge and treat yourself.  The Q's business model has become "I have got to get it here or else" for some and that's part of the problem from what I can see.
