I'm more in favor of stores being closed all day Thanksgiving day but I have to laugh at some of the comments about this with all the other stores and businesses open that day that no one gives a thought to.

How many restaurants are open to serve dinner to people who don't want to cook for themselves?  Thanksgiving is a huge day to go see a movie.  How many will do that?  What about all the employees at the theatres?

Grocery stores because you forget something?  We could keep going on.

I don't think it's fair to lump essential workers like police, fire, nurses, doctors, etc. in with this because they are always going to have to work.  If the power goes out, electric company employees will have to come in to get power restored.  My DH works for a water department and he's been called in on just about every holiday because of a water main break or someone hits a fire hydrant.  They know that when they take the job.

I think it is disgusting for stores to open at 8 pm or later on Thanksgiving.  Why don't they wait until Black Friday?
