What's fascinating to me is the beginning of the women's movement, the civil rights movement, the time of President Kennedy and Dr. King. I enjoy asking my mother about all of it and always tell her she was so lucky to witness all of it.
I am attracted to Victorian homes. I wouldn't have wanted to live in that era.

The rise and fall of the Roman Empire always pops up in my thoughts. Very similar to our times, imo. Over- indulgence of food (vomitariams), sports/coliseums, violence (gladiators/wild animals in arenas), thousands of roman baths (spas/massages), and so on and so on.........So many similarities (minus modern day electronics, but really the same, including mass excitement of 'this and that' and enjoyment of observing violence). I've been noticing it more and more, the excitement/volatility in our era.

I have always been interested in the 1920's. Would love to have been a young adult living during this Era.

@Hodgemom Have you ever seen Woody Allen's film Midnight in Paris? If not, I highly recommend it to you. You'll love it!

Gosh, so many rich topics you all have interests in. Desert Lily, what is the Higgs Boson? Sounds deep and scientific.

Read James Michener if you want to learn about the Hawaiian Islands. His books, including "Hawaii" and
"Tales of the South Pacific," specifically. He always starts with a prologue about his subject locales from their earth birth to the present. They are like poetry.
Michener was a very prolific writer and I have enjoyed many of his wondrous tales.

I really like modern-day movies that are set in the 50's as well. There's something about that time period that makes me feel nostalgic. Maybe I was there in a past life or something.
I was a teenager in the 50s, Mistri. I grew up in an innocent time right after the WW II. We were poor, but I don't remember being afraid of anything. The "bomb" was the only thing to fear, but my mom told me it would never happen here and I believed her 100%!!

Did you know that there was an underground railroad during the Vietnam Era? It was in SF and took those who were opposed to the war to Canada.
