Why wouldn't Apple open stores in China?

We live in a global economy. Apple certainly has no problem in selling their products in China, nor is there any reason they should.

Are you saying the Chinese people don't deserve Apple stores? I want to see American companies thrive, and if Apple lost the Chinese market, that would have a huge impact!

Wow. I'm looking at directions for pleated masks, and it says you can get 12 to 15 masks from one yard of fabric. I'm assuming that's 44/45" width. That's a lot of masks from what's often just $3 to $5 a yard. I know that the thread and hard-to-find elastic add to the materials cost, but the most expensive component is the labor. I wonder how fast a person could churn out masks if he or she had some practice.

If I were a seamstress with lots of connections in my community, I'd set up a custom mask operation. The customer supplies the fabric and I'd create the masks.

@noodleann  $3 to $5 a yard?  IIRC more than that when I bought fabric many, many years ago. At that price I'd bet made in China.

I just bought 15 yards of an out-of-print Thimbleberries quilting fabric for less than $4 a yard on eBay. I've bought other quilting yardage on eBay over the past few years for different projects and paid as little as $1 and as much as $5 a yard, but not more. This is cotton fabric, not blends, and it's not the second-tier fabric with the same selvege info that RJR and other fabric manufacturers churn out for Walmart. I've got samples of that stuff and the first-tier product, so I can compare, and I've got the good stuff that won't thin out and fade after one washing in cold water.

@noodleann  Thanks for explaining.   Some selling on ebay at those prices may want to  get rid of what they have. I've done that with things. I just want them gone! 😀

I know the feeling, I've done the same thing. But sometimes I think sellers don't stop to check past sales or even current listings, and you can get lucky that way. I shop "hard" and once I've found what I want, I recheck to make sure I can't get it for less. It always amazes me how often that second look nets a real deal.

I'm hoping the OP comes back and tells us whether she meant the Zulily masks were simply made in China or were shipped from there, too.

I ordered 2 cute masks from Zullily. No indication where they originated. Just received notice they were shipped. THEY ARE COMING FROM CHINA!! Guess the jokes on me. I'm sick to death of feeling like I've been taken for a ride from online shopping.

@Auntie CC  If you want made in America look on Etsy...go to USA shops and you'll find handmade masks.

@haddon9, just add. if you want an item made here, you need filter for it. The filters are on the left.

I did that and am fine with our masks, but I would use ones made from China if necessary.

@noodleann. Some masks have ties made from the same cloth as the masks rather than elastic.

I ordered 50 disposable masks for each of our kids and found out later they were shipped from China.  The order was placed on April 6 and we still don't have the masks.  The order was from Amazon.  This is ridiculous.  So I made masks and sent them to each of them to at least have something until the masks arrive...if ever!  I'm even concerned about having them use them now that I know where they came from.  Sad.

If you're worried about the virus being on them because they are from China, it would be long dead by the time the masks get to you. The bigger worry is that the virus would be on the packaging that U.S. workers, who statistics-wise are much more likely to have it than Chinese workers, touch.

I'm surprised that there is still so much worry about stuff coming from China. If you don't want to buy items made in China (good luck) because of whatever reason, fine. But don't worry about the virus.

Didn't even think of ties. My hands are numb, my fine motor coordination is shot, and shoulder spurs make over-the-head actions tricky or painful, so ties are out for me. I thought the ear elastics would be annoying or dig in, but they're fine. My masks have round covered elastic, not the flat kind. Good if you're allergic to latex.
