WOW! You are SO right! I could never have come up with all of the things you listed. Bravo! **clapping** (since we no longer have that emoticon available!)

Welcome to the human race. This goes on in every walk of life. It's just so visible now, like never before. kind of like the universe with all the stars and galaxies ... thanks to the Hubble. Only that kind of scrutiny is amazing to me. Taking that same desire to know and expose the truths with the *flaws* and all, and basking in the knowledge and glory of it all. And reaching for the stars in our behavior.

And : you don't like the way I talk over the vendor,other host or hand up on you ( the caller) abruptly , stare at myself in the monitor. But mostly because I sound like I've been sucking on a helium balloon.

This kind of ultra-scrutiny is by no means only observed on QVC or other shopping channels.  It seems to be part and parcel to every single job where someone is in the public eye.  Maybe this kind of personal analysis is more widespread today than ever before simply because there are avenues in which to discuss it, like public forums.  But the scrutiny has always been there (a group of people discussing someone in the news over lunch or in their living room)......

I'd say the person doing this kind of job must have a very high sense of self and an ability to look past the nonsense....   obviously it can be done!  Woman Happy

I know someone who is on our local news channel.  He said they get a lot of calls about the female anchors and reporters more so than the men, but if one of the women changes their hair, they will get calls from people who don't like it.  People call and complain about the clothes the women are wearing.

Look at that weather lady who was handed a sweater live on air because people were calling in and saying she was dressed inappropriately!

There was just a thread on another part of this board where a poster claimed she called QVC to have them get a message down to the studio to tell Shawn her dress was inappropriate! She wanted something done about it.  LOL

Well, if I was paid real well, I personally wouldn't care what people thought of me.  I'd laugh all the way to the bank. Heck, I don't care what people think of me anywho anyway.

I would think that everyone in the public eye would need to have thick skin nowadays.  People are so critical of everything and everybody,  I just don't understand it.

You're right, but I think it's always been there.... there's just so many ways to make the criticism public now.....

And I'm like you, don't care what anyone thinks ....   Woman LOL

@butterfly123

One reason why I wouldn't want to be a host is the long presentations on hard floors wearing high heels!    Even "comfortable" heels tend to get uncomfortable after an hour or so on a hard floor ..... and when your feet hurt, you lose your concentration ...

Of course, if I was an EXTREMELY WELL PAID HOST, I'd deal with it.    Woman LOL

@Tinkrbl44

You could be the host for shoe presentations and sit and try on the shoes and present the jewelry sitting in a chair behind a table. Problem of walking in high heels solved🙂

@butterfly123

I appreciated your post.  But you missed one very important aspect of the job:

I would hate to be a host because I would hate to have to sell merchandise I clearly don't believe is great, amazing, "almost free", etc....

Over the years I have made that comment many times to my husband...

and I might add, they probably have to attend meetings which push them to

sell, sell, sell, which promotes the carnival barker persona.

I couldn't do it because of the lack of potty breaks!   Honestly, sometimes ya just can't wait.
