IKE, IN D-DAY'S MOST FAMOUS PHOTOGRAPH

The word goes out-- "Full victory-- nothing else".   Those sweet faces, surrounding their respected commander, Dwight "Ike" Eisenhower, so poignant-- in a short time from then, the paratroopers will be risking their all.

Incidentally, in a tense D-Day movie,  Tom Selleck as "Ike" memorably and eerily replicated this scene, sharing a soldier's camaraderie with the men.  Deeply moving scene,  with tender, gallant undercurrents.

Bless them all. We owe them a debt that cannot be

repaid.

For me, this is not the most famous D-Day photograph. I don't think of any D-Day photograph as famous. 2,501 American troops gave their lives on D-Day. My father was lucky and survived. The most poignant and moving images for me are those showing the actual invasion and bravery of our young men.

Yes, @Desert Lily,  every one of those precious lives counts, immeasurably.

Ike was a force of nature. He was ill every single day during WW2. He suffered from Chrones disease (sp)

When you compare his civility ,with Monty's brash arrogance, I am glad Ike was ours...
