I keep hearing people, young people in particular, saying "ICKspecially" for especially. While not one of my favorite words to begin with, Merriam Webster advises:

is-'pesh-le, -'pe-sh?-

I just heard a weather person on a local channel say this yesterday. I don't know about QVC because I watch very little of it, but do you hear people around you saying this often? I have noticed it recently.

ICK is all I have to say about that!

I've never heard that mispronunciation, but I've heard plenty of others. Personally, I think the absence of phonics in early education has a lot to do with it, but that's just my opinion. The other culprit is social media which seems to invent approximated words or shorten them to barely recognizable. The one that just astounded me was "prolly" when the intended word is "probably." They aren't even the same syllables!

Come to think of it, I've heard a couple of people recently say "Ick-spresso" too.

I've heard EXspecially but not ICKspecially.

One that drives me crazy is when people say Antartica instead of Antarctica.

I haven't heard it, but seeing the pronunciation above, I guess I've been saying it wrong. I start with more of an e sound than i, and I say it with 4 syllables.

Good grief, our language is going down the toilet. I recently heard a woman say she "sent the hubs out for milk."

Huh? {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}
