I wish I were about 20 years old. I love a lot of the fashions, hairstyles, jewelry, etc. that are designed for younger people. I'm genuinely old and those flashy and trendy designs would look silly on me. And when I was growing up, my mother cautioned me about how too many women who dress inappropriately for their age look like they're trying too hard. I took that advice to heart and have used a light touch with make-up, jewelry etc.

So...if you're young, go ahead and enjoy your big hoop earrings (my special favorite), current fads and fashions. You're only young once so enjoy it and don't waste it Woman Very Happy

I hear you but I would need to be about 30-35 years younger.  I always loved fashion but now am quite conservative in my clothing and makeup choices.  Getting (being) old is not for sissies!Woman Sad

I wish I were a lot younger for many reasons not because of fashion!  I had a much nicer figure then, wrinkle free skin, not to mention no health issues.

I also love big hoop earrings and at 69 I still wear them! I just purchased a new pair yesterday and don't feel that I look silly in them.

I also feel that if one dresses too conservatively when older, one will just look a lot older. I agree that one should dress their age up to a point such as not exposing too much but a little fun shows a little personality. I don't see anything wrong with that.

@GoneButNotForgotten  I have a daughter that is 21.  She definitely heeds your advice.  I have to say though some of the looks she puts together take a lot of confidence to pull off.  I know when I was her age I never had the guts to pull together the looks that she does.

I'm with you on this!  I always used to wear all the newest fads in clothing, jewelry, shoes, makeup, etc. when I was young.  I still look at all the latest fashion items and get very wistful.  I will look at a particular item and think --- when I was young, I would rock that!  LOL!  And I have seen older woman - I mean my age and beyond (I'm 71) wearing things that are more suitable for a 16 years old!  And a saying comes to mind --- Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!  I mean, don't get me wrong -- we're free to make our own fashion choices, and if these things are what people want to wear --- more power!

Yes, I agree.  I don't want to look matronly no matter how old I am.  And yes, I did have a better figure back then and could wear anything.  And to have nicer skin and less health issues would be wonderful!!!!

@haddon9   I don't remember ever dressing trendy even in my 20's. Maybe tasteful and somewhat conversative choices now....no tight or too short clothing, overdone makeup or hair styles with hairspray that doesn't move (helmet head).

That's always been me...then and now.

I am 78 yrs old and I wear my large earrings with bling and the longer ones.  I wear ripped jeans and patch jeans just recently bought Logo boyfriend/baggy jeans and I love them.  I wear boho tops in bright colors & patterns and my shoes are colorful and some are wedge heels.  I also wear tee shirts.

I still wear makeup (although less) and have my hair in a popular short bob.

I dont see a reason to not wear what I like.  If others think I look silly or trying to hard so be it.

Why should we not enjoy our mature age?

Mix some trends in with your conservative style. Wear those hoops ! It doesn't have to be all one way !

Exactly! I wear what I want when I want. My taste is not necessarily the same as someone else's and that's ok. If someone doesn't like what I'm wearing or how I'm wearing it, they are free and welcome not to look at me if I disturb them so much.
