It sounds like a harmless glitch, but your choice not to use links.

Personally, I look at the poster's name and at the link and then decide. I've never encountered any serious problems.

Also, my security protection usually warn about not opening a "malicious" link.

this is what i do also.

i do post links but also try to post the name of the website OR the article name.

people have a choice to get there that way also instead of just clicking.

i have been here many years and have not had a problem with links from "trusted posters."

I have used MACS since 2004 and have never had a virus or any of these problems. Would never go back to a PC.

I use a Mac so I’ve not encountered this but it’s good to be judicious
