I want to put an end to this - once and for all

Before retiring I posted on this forum that I was concerned that a retired acquaintance of mine was making noises about all the stuff we were going to do once I retired. There is too much to this situation to write about here - so let me just say that I've tried every possible maneuver to distance myself from her and she doesn't get the hint.

I retired on February 15th and to date we have not had lunch. Here's the way it goes:

She used to email me daily at the crack of dawn according to her time stamp and report to me all the mundane things on her list of things to do that day. As a courtesy, I would reply and tell her what I had planned. After a while, I realized that I didn't want to report to her since my goings on are none of her business. So I started to back off on replying. She finally got the picture and may email me once a week of about every 10 days now. I remain cordial but don't give her any info as to what I've been up to.

She is adamant that we have lunch. I have actually not been able to meet with her on the days she has proposed. My DD is getting married - the day is drawing near - and there are lots of things left to do. Besides, I do have a life. I am active in church, attend social events, etc.

When I propose a distant date, she has replied that she and her hubby are doing this and that. Understandable. So another date is placed on the table. No, that won't work either. The last date we finally agreed upon, she called me on a Sunday to tell me that her DH had decided to take a trip and she wouldn't be able to meet me. (Relief!)

So now we're at the present. Once again I proposed a date and she said that she and DH always go to lunch & a movie on that weekday.

I don't want to have lunch with her. Period. Ever. I just can't shake this gal. I don't know what to say to her that wouldn't hurt her feeling and yet get the message across.

(((((sigh))))
