@furbabylover wrote:Of course we can't generalize about intelligence. However I notice certain traits in the dogs I've had over my lifetime, and I have seen distinct and repetitive traits in female and male dogs. I have discussed this with other dog owners who generally concur. Female dogs are usually smarter, more nimble, more moody, more aloof, more cunning. Male dogs are usually more affectionate, more "dopey", more gullible, more attached, more loyal. It may just be the breeds I've owned, but these traits have been pretty consistent between male and female.
That is really interesting.
For our 2 boys and 1 girl dog I would have to agree

Nurturance, genetics, opportunities and luck all play into how "smart" someone becomes or develops from a very early age.
Intelligence is so variable. I think children's intelligence is not nurtured enough. I wish they all had mentors to help them develop their innate curiosity and love of learning in depth what excites their intellect. Maybe there would be fewer twenty-somethings growing older not knowing much about anything and never picking up a book.
I enjoy learning. Books mattered in my childhood home. I have a myriad of details about the world and people in my head but I lack fast recall. I'd need a slow motion version of Jeopardy! to last very long. Anything more than basic math turns my brain to mush. I drink up big-picture stuff like philosphy, the universe, and religious thought, but small detail work makes me impatient. I'm usually reading three books at any one time, almost always about history, science or politics.
Women could run the world as good or as badly as men have, given the same opportunities while keeping men in check as they did females, maybe better. It would be a hoot to find out.

Nah. I don't think gender is the determining factor.
I do think that Dear Abby said it best:
"We're ALL ignorant .... only on different subjects ... "

Intelligence - more or less - cannot be assigned to one sex more than another.

He knows more in some areas, and I know more in other areas. I'll leave it there.

@DottieBlue ..........what do vehicle accidents and road rage have to do with intelligence? Im sure brainiac's have had accidents and some get road rage.

Define smarter. Who can definite intelligence in others? Book smart, common sense smart, smart ****** or dumb as a box of rocks, etc.
My mom always used to say "he/she is not smart enough to get in out of the rain." This to me represents no common sense.

My ex-husband used to say, "Intelligence is a constant. The population keeps growing." I believe this statement is gender-neutral, but if you watch those funny home video shows you'll notice that the majority of the dumb stunts are performed by guys.

Just like everyone, I have "flashes" of genius. Otherwise, I'm just average I guess. But I love it when I have an epiphany...I feel really smart for a couple minutes! ![]()
