If you pay with Venmo by entering the person's name you want to pay, how does Venmo verify which "John Smith" is the one you want to pay?

@Free2be

you can pay them by their name, their username, their phone number, or their email......it depends on how they have their account set up. i just always ask first to make sure i am sending it to the right account, then once you have done a transaction, venmo saves that information for you.

for example:

jane smith

@jane-smith

555 555 1212

jsmith@someemailsite.com

I have never heard of until this thread so I went and looked it up.  It is owned by PayPal and I love PayPal.

Re: I used Venmo for the first time

While I pay bills and do banking online I just can't use Venmo or Zelle.

While I do not have a Venmo account, I had $500 taken from my checking account from Venmo.  After contacting Venmo, I found them to be very unhelpful.  They have no Online Chat or phone support only email.  Their only suggestion was to call my bank (which I had already done) Since they didn't seem to care that their service was used to steal money, I have chosen to never use their service.  Thankfully my bank gave me the $500 back.

I use Zelle all the time to send money to my grandkids for bdays, etc. I also use it to reimburse DD when she buys something I ask her to pick up for me at the grocery store. It is through B of A so haven't had the need to use Venmo.

I'm afraid to use Ven after reading all the fine print in the app.

@Sunshine Kate

I agree, if the money is sent to the wrong person or business, there is no way to get it back.

I used Pay pal today and quite often; my Amazon account is linked with Pay Pal

Have never had a problem with Zelle. I love using it to send money to the grandkids. It goes directly into their checking account and they get a text saying how much and who sent it.I get the text saying it was deposited.

Re: I used Venmo for the first time

I was thinking I use PayPal for Amazon as well. But my credit card is on file at Amazon which is the same one on file at PayPal.
