Probably a combo of chocolate and the sugar. Oreos are high in sugar!!!. The other night I had toast with lots of honey before bed, couldn't sleep either. I was a little buzzed. What I don't get is....why don't i get that buzzed during the day when I can use the buzz

More importantly, how can a person eat just one cookie?
Well, perhaps you might recall when Oreos came out with giant cookies. They were the size of a saucer. Now I could only eat one of those. Probably be the equivalent of a whole row of Oreos.

I am fortunate that caffeine doesn't keep me awake. I can drink tea or any caffeinated drink or eat chocolate as a midnight snack.
We never buy Oreos...I am gluten free and my DH doesn't like them.
i once read where Oreos were one of the worlds most addictive foods. If so, how do you just eat one?

Well, that single Oreo was a Mega Stuff, so I'm opening my mind to the sugar theory. We don't even keep a sugar bowl around here, neither of us uses it for cereal, etc. We do put one out for overnight guests, but we haven't had company for two years now.

JMO on Oreos, I cannot eat them at all. Never really liked them as they are made out of mostly baking cocoa not a lot of real chocolate in them. I have tried to eat them and get a gut ache and right to the bathroom. If I'm going to eat a choco cookie it sure is not going to be an oreo.

@depglass wrote:No, I don't think this is a no-brainer. Yes, they list chocolate, which usually contains caffeine. DH and I had one cookie for our evening snack last night. Neither of us could get to sleep. I emailed Oreo but doubt if they will list it on the label. What I'm thinking about are kids, who probably eat these before bed much more than we do.
@depglass The sugar in them would be a stimulant.

Just checked and Oreo cookies have been around since 1912.
1912.

@mspatmac Why is that incredible? Oreos contain chocolate which is made from cocoa, which contains caffeine. The cookies have a minuscule amount though so it's probably the sugar that's causing the OP's sleeplessness.

If I ate an oreo before bed, I'd be up all night too. From heartburn. I can eat other cookies and candies and in fact do usually eat a square of dark chocolate a night and I have no problem. But oreos give me horrible heartburn.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read you ate ONE Oreo! Who ever heard. LOL. I can't even have them in the house because I could eat them all in a day. Well slight exaggeration... two days. I bought a pack last summer with the intention of a couple with coffee in the afternoon. I should've known better. 🙄 It didn't effect my sleep but some people are more sensitive to caffeine.
