Many of my favorites have been listed already.   I'd add almost any Midsomer Murder, Judge John Deed, Hinterland and Death in Paradise.

Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge....LOVE them...am currently loving them.....Are You Being Served:  I could watch those shows over and over.  Did you know that all the actors have passed on except for Mr. Peacock (Captain Peacock???)   I even called in to my local public TV channel once when "Mr. Lucas" was raising money by pushing taped episodes.  I got to speak to him....made my day.

I don't think it's better, but it is different in many ways.

My favorites would be "Keeping Up Appearances" and "Thomas the Tank Engine."

When Damien Lewis was living in the US filming Homeland, I saw him in person twice - once in a coffe shop next door to work and another time at a Saturday farmer's market, with his wife and baby in a stroller. His hair is an utterly gorgeous shade of red.

No one has mentioned All Creatures Great and Small. I loved that, and the Duchess of Duke Street

Both of these were fantastic.  I have very fond memories of watching and re-watching them.
