I consider reviews an important part of evaluating whether I purchase something or not.  

I look at negative reviews first keeping an eye out for similar complaints.  If there are, I won't buy.

I think illegitimate reviews are easy to spot, so I pay no attention them.

As a reviewer myself there are issues I encounter that are annoying.  Readers expecting us to know what questions they want answered, give us no it wasn't helpfuls.  We are not mind readers nor are we professional reviewers.

Before biuing online I examine reviews from all sources. I hate reviews that complain about their delivery or the condition of the package. That doesn't help me in deciding about the product.

The few sites I shop on will have "Verified Buyer" before the review.

I am not sure how one would know the review is from an outside source or why this is even an issue.

Just read what you want and ignore the rest.

I like a review to come from someone who purchased the product on the site they are leaving the review.  I don't see the point of writing a review on one site when I bought the item from somewhere else.

Some companies get versions of the item that are made specifically for them.  So having a review about the item purchased elsewhere doesn't do much good because the products aren't necessarily identical.

I have seen a lot of reviews on HSN for items that state they are reviewing the item in exchange for receiving the item for free.  I disregard those.

You are referring to QVC reviews then.  I thought you were speaking generally @Mindy D .

Amazon lets me right very detailed reviews.  It keeps track of your characters so you don't go over.  I've seen some with many paragraphs and pictures added too.

I used to read reviews. And sadly I bought items just because of the favorable reviews. Not anymore. I bought a Dyson vacuum, countless makeup kits and Wen cleansing conditioner. I did not like the items and regret buying them.

In fact last night we went out to dinner. We went to one of our favorite restaurants. Before we left, I happened to read several ugly reviews for the restaurant. I have been there many times and never had a disappointing meal or bad service. And last night was no exception. I was thrilled as usual.

So I now disregard reviews. And decide for myself.
