I wasn't referring to the pop up ads - who cares about an ad for jewelry or shoes  - i am talking about if you open a site to look at a video that may be something innocent like a recipe or a video about preventing heart disease, but that is only a small part of the page and the rest of the page is all this disgusting krap.Or perhaps the facebook post will say something like 20 hairdos for short hair - but then when you try to run the slideshow - OMG - the stuff that is also on the screen ! The ad block has taken care of it - but if you think that yoiur kids would not see this if they opened the wrong site - you are very naive.

@Bestdressed

Hi!

I hope I'm doing this @ thing rightSmiley Happy

I wanted to respond to you because I had the same problem with Mr. REbates. Finally after many emails to them, one answered it correctly. She said you not only have to disable adblock on their site; you have to totally disable it from your computer-you must delete/cancel it from your extensions or whatever they are called. Also you must enable 3rd party cookies.

I tried this and it idid work for the first time.My orders were recorded on mr rebates right away.

Then I re-enstalled adblock after I ordered something thru  Mrebates. Ebates is the same way.

But really I felt like this whole rigamarole was not worth it to me.

And esp since these are the only sites I've ever experienced such ridiculous problems and the fact that they were not able to answer this until I went through many emails with different responses.Or saying wait 14 days or whatever, or that the order site hadn't let them know-all kinds of answers that didn't help or I had already done.

And it also told me that their sites probably share my information with lots of affiliates and other businesses.

I hope this helps youSmiley Happy

You also may need to report the problem to face book and block the person and or page.

I must have a mile long page of blocked names. Sometime I like to look at the comments under a thread and some horrible things come up...block.

Have you tried ad bloc or ad bloc plus?

I no longer have pop ups on yahoo or facebook.

It's FREE and easy to install.

Quick question...I had adblock installed ...loved it!

But it interfered with Mr. Rebates.  No matter how I tried ...it would not track my rebates.  I deleted adblock and now Mr. Rebates works again.  Now... I have all the crazy pop up ads again.

Is this normal?

@Bestdressed You can install AB on one browser but not another. I have it on Chrome, but not on IE. For things that I want to see or use that are blocked on Chrome, I simply use IE. Also, AB for Chrome allows you to list sites you don't want blocked by going to the options menu.

@on the bay Thanks for letting me know how you were able to get rebates.  I think I will try re-installing it as suggested by you and see if it allows my rebates.  If not, I will put with the ads....since I look forward to my Mr. Rebates check.

So are children seeing these pornographic pop ups if they go on their FB page?

it probably depends on their settings, but i can honestly say that i am on facebook daily and i have never seen those types of pop-ups and i dont use ad-block.

I've never seen them either and I've been on fb for at least 5 years.

If I was seeing those types of things coming up regularly on facebook I'd be running a full virus and malware scan on my computer.

I agree and I also agree that alot of what some folks are seeing has to do with the way they've configured settings.

I use facebook all the time. I am not naive, however, I do know how to set the privacy settings on my facebook page. I have never been bothered by anything like you describe.

It's.not.FB. It's what you are clicking on. It's the site you are clicking in, *which is not FB.*

I think people are misunderstanding the OP. On the right side of my FB page there are ads from places that I either visited or ones that are similar. Like right now there is an ad for Barefoot Dreams at Nordstrom because I went there the other day when this forum talked about those. There is an ad for Groupon and another one for Zulily.

What she is talking about is in her newsfeed, I get daily newsfeeds from sites like Organic Spa, Sun Gazing, Living Frugally, places I went to and read articles. But on some of those sites while you are getting to the article, that page is loaded with other sites streaming in like those she described about ED, ugliest celebrities, stars that got fat, plastic surgery gone wrong.,.,.. Those are not ads but other sites. The original article you wanted to read does not have a page to itself without all this other junk surrounding it. I don't think ad blocker would help that.

Ever site that posts on the internet is trying to grab space and oftentimes they have no control as to what other sites will come up

here is part of an article that addresses it:

Website-generated pop-ups happen in two distinct forms.

The first are pop-ups that actually open up an entirely new browser window. That window might appear in front of or behind the window that you’re looking at. It’s also the kind that’s the easiest for a browser’s built-in pop-up blockers to block.

The second kind appears like a small window or an overlay within the web page that you’re looking at. These are nearly impossible to block, because the browsers don’t see them as pop-ups at all. They’re just parts of that same web page that, for a while, were hidden. When they un-hide, they appear to pop-up.

Website owners choose whether to use either of these two types of pop-ups on their sites, or not. For example, Ask Leo! has no pop-ups that make new browser windows. In fact, it’s also not supposed to have any kind of pop-up except for the newsletter offer that appears once every 180 days after you’ve been on a page for 30 seconds. Occasionally, an advertiser will include some kind of an on-page pop-up, but that’s about it.

Other website make different choices. Websites that include more aggressive pop-ups typically make more money because, to put it bluntly, those more aggressive pop-ups are actually more successful at getting people’s attention.

Oh, one more thing: your computer tracks everything you do and everywhere you go so clicking on an innocent link to read and article and embedded in that link are more links to sites you don't want is not a FB thing. Try turning off your cookies and look into other ways on how not to track your activities. Without your browsing history being scanned by companies across the globe, it may help cut down on some of these sites.

I'm done with P.C. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. It's easier.
