I don't blame the moderators.  There have been several very civil conversations on this board recently, civil until someone showed up and started complaining that others were breaking the rules.  Not just one comment, but several comments challenging other posters who were nothing but civil.

Strangely enough, the threads were then taken down, moved, closed, whatever.

Therein lies a large part of the problem, imo.

I didn't see the thread, as I was actually watching tv probably when the discussion happened. Having said that, the rules are the rules, if someone is starting threads on politics it doesn't matter if it's civil or not as the rules says no political discussions. Crying because someone reported a thread against the rules is rediculous.

@LilacTree werent you going to start your own board also?

That was taken out of my hands and it's just as well.  See my response to another poster in this thread for explanation.

Therein lies the rub. Playing Devil's Advocate, IMO, if a thread should not have been *started* because of the contents of the OP being strictly against Standards/Guidelines, then *it should be deleted as soon as it's posted* or as soon as moderators, who should be constantly looking for "illegal" OPs (being a bit facetious here), spot it. Period. If it's not allowed, it should not be allowed AT ALL, whether civil or not.

But you can imagine the hue and cry over that.

I can understand posters being upset over a thread *that the moderators allowed to stand for hours*, knowing it was "not allowed", but *allowing it anyway*. IMO if the moderators have let it stand and there is no rudeness, someone reporting it "just cuz" should not be able to get the thread deleted *when the moderators tacitly okayed its existence by not immediately deleting it*.

Long before the last board upgrade, many current events and almost all political threads were deleted.  Some posters just do not like each other, some posters always have to lecture, some posters are always right and some posters come here only to stir the pot.

The biggest difference I see is many of the sparring partners are gone.

As for whether or not the board is boring, with the exception of the nightly fights, it never was exactly jumping with excitement.

And that is the truth.

any controversal topic got ugly quickly and got removed.  Threads that weren't controversal got ugly depending on who started it.  and got removed.   The Q is just being more proactive now and actually telling posters what is acceptable and why a post/thread was removed - which is 99% the norm for chatboards.  In fact, other chatboards won't remove the posters name, like they do here.

People complained bitterly about the fights and grudges  - they didn't want to read them.  It seems to me, that with the current complaints, they actually DID like to read and eat popcorn while this was going on.

I agree with you.

What a coincidence: the thread continued for several hours AS PEOPLE WATCHED the debate, and it wasn't taken down, even though the title clearly said it was about the debate.

Then, someone not taking part in watching or discussing, shows up to slap wrists and it comes down.

i dont get it......wasnt the OTHER board created so those of you who dont enjoy posting here can talk about anything, everything, and everyone THERE?

Something in-between......like the old board here.....would be nice.

...............I agree....something in between would be so much better. I can remember how the kids in school very much disliked the teacher that kept everyone after class because of a couple troublemakers.  No one wanted to get her for a teacher.  That is what it promotes.

Jubilant, I'm making my way through this thread, so I hope I'm not repeating something.

I would have no interest in Reditt other than when it comes up in a search for reviews of a product. The site has been in the news the past couple weeks precisely because it has become a haven for some of the most vile and disgusting posts (racist and sexist to the max). The owners are comtemplating changes because it's so bad that they are worried about sponsors leaving. The posts could not even be repeated in any of the articles.

I find there are days when I don't even log in.  That hasn't happened very much since I've been a member here.

ALL current events should not be unacceptable.

I agree with you. The list of  now "acceptable" topics are not that interesting, anymore. (a few here and there) I used to look forward to coming here. There was only a few posters that were a little agressive, at times. Yes, I tend to go on other forums now, with better topics that can be discussed.

current events can be discussed here.  the problem is that a few posters have to make it either highly political or religious, when it should not be that way

Cecil threads have been locked because some posters had a political agenda.  Others have managed to stay up despite some people bringing in off topic political stuff into that thread.

there are ways to discuss things here without making it political.
