@Kachina624 wrote:I buy my towels from the Linen Source online and catalog. Their stuff is expensive but excellent quality and lasts forever. I wouldn't trust discount sources to have genuine Egyptian Cotton anything. Apparently the company that's the main supplier to the US retail industry has been cheating and substituting an inferior product. They'll probably end up at places like Costco and Overstock.
FIY: Linen Source is one of the few places you can find good quality chenille bedspreads.

you've never been to Costco, right?

@Mominohio, I hear you! @bri20 mentioned Ralph Lauren. I've seen those at Macy's, and they felt very nice to the touch. Good option to consider, too.

Threshold textured towlels from Target, they are great, wash well and are fairly inexpensive. I like them so much I have three sets in different colors.

I have a lot of Threshold hand towels. I put a fresh one out every day in two bathrooms and they get washed weekly in hot water. They look brand new
I use C fold paper towels from Costco in the guest bathroom Everyone just uses a fresh paper towel instead of a hand towel that stays wet and gross

I purchased several Fieldcrest Luxury at Target, 100% cotton. Love them, love the colors. Before you get carried away with "Egyptian cotton", google it & do some research. I don't use fabric softener & I hang them out to dry. it's not everyone's cup of tea but I love it.
Towels aren't meant to last forever. I don't mind buying new ones every couple of years or so.

I've tried Kohl's, JC Penney, Macy's and even Walmart (believe it or not, WM has some that are nicer than the department stores).
The problem, upon first wash, there are picks, runs, fraying etc.
Is there not a super strong, good quality, will last for many years kind of towel still made today? All cotton, and a nice tighter weave? Something like we could buy in the 1980's?
Money is an object, but would consider 'high' price for a truly good quality.
Any suggestions?

I found a set of Liz Claiborne micro cotton towels at Penneys that I relly like. They are nice and thick and have held up well during the five months I've had them. The bath towels cost $25, but Penneys has them on sale right now.

I am really picky (OK, weird) about bath towels. I can't stand the hard stitching areas close to the ends. I have never understood why towels are made that way. In any event, it seems like I am always on the hunt for good towels. My favorite is Biltmore purchased at Belk. They are well made, not too pricey (and go on sale regularly), thick enough, and last.

I buy the Ralph Lauren from Macy's or Dillards and other towels (along with flannel linen) from Land's End and Garnet Hill (Eileen Fisher brand). I especially enjoy the Eileen Fisher coverlets, duvets, and their decorative pillow covers; look for end of season sales.

@JustJazzmom wrote:You are going to use them, right? Just putting them in the wash can cause problems when washed with other items. No one will notice the pulls and if they do, then they are too picky!
I have plenty of towels for daily use, I'm looking for gifts and for ones to display in the guest bath that aren't used regularly.
And I refuse to keep brand new towels that snag, pull, and get runs in them after just one washing (or two or ten for that matter). There has to be a better quality out there, I just have to find them.
