In my state, in order to be on 9 juries, I would have to have been notified every 3 years in a 27 year time span, and would have been chosen every single time. The odds of that?????? There is a 3 year wait between notifications.

I know some of my co-workers did not like having to make decisions, but I just could just not understand why. So many like to give opinions on what other jurors "should have done", but them make a decision? NOPE, Anyone care to try to help me understand this? Only reasons other than "they don't have time or their job or their kids", Thanks.
Well, I have to drive 1.5 hours each way in bumper to bumper traffic. It is actually only 37 miles away. But takes forever!. Parking is a nightmare, that is another 30 minutes. Also, I have some health issues that would keep me from sitting that long. My Doctor gives me a note each time. I did serve twice in the past,my number never was called though. That's my excuse. My husband gets called all the time, he goes. One time they had a huge earthquake, and that ended that, lol!
Many people can take the day off, but they don't get paid . They have to take personal or vacation if they want to get wages for the day. The county pays 16 dollars a day if you are chosen. I imagine that would pay for gas.
It would be interesting.

there is going to be a mental health defense. I don't believe driving too fast and drunk are mental health. When questioned, i said I didn't know if I could overcome my issues in that regard. I'm dismissed.
Good answer!

It is quite possible that a mentally ill person will behave in such a manner. Bipolars are known for risky behavior like self medicating with alcohol and speeding while manic.

I discussed this in a post not too long ago. I have never harmed another person nor have I committed any crime. I declared to the court that I could possibly be 95% open minded. Please do not come at me with limited knowledge of bi-polar illness.

Just because self medicating and speeding is not your personal experience, that does not mean it doesn't happen to others. It most definitely can be due to mental illness.

Not during a manic episode they're not. Otherwise they would not do it. Ask anybody who has had a manic episode and they would tell you they would never behave that way when they are stable.

years But I didn't drive 70 MPH on a 2 lane street and mow down a family. I struggled with this mental health defense.
