I agree with the author and you that we should not have to put up with this, but for some reason (and hardly two weeks go by that we don't see a doctor for my husband or me). My doctor sees 3 different ophthalmologists, an endocrinologist, two different neurologists for different reasons, a urologist two cardiovascular specialists for different reasons, two endoscopists for different reasons, his primary care physician, an ENT here and one at a teaching university, a pulmonologist and a vascular surgeon. I see a neurologist, a pulmonologist, and primary care physician, opthalmologist, all ours are at different facilities. He sees one ophthalmologist or the other frequently for corneal ulcers, macular degeneration, hole in the retina, glaucoma. He has had bypass surgeries, stents, pacemakers, defibrillators, cocholear implants, all kinds of hearing aids, etc, colon cancer and prostate surgery, has anemia of 2 different kinds. All total more than 20 doctors for the two of us. It is insane and to think, we have to submit to their staff as if we were their subordinates, when we are paying their salaries.
wow, you really have your hands full...and I give you kudos for not knocking someone's block off

In my 30's I went to see a doctor as I was having knee and hip problems. She told me point blank that I caused it from running ten years prior when I was in my 20's....she actually blamed me for causing it.
she was wrong....as I have inflamatory osteoarthritis....and it only got worse as time and years went on leading to at age 59 double hip and double knee replacement. I also have it in other joints..toes...feet...fingers...spine.
This was a "professional" who blamed me for causing this condition. People are wrong and accusing. Even professionals.

Even if someone has cirrosis of the liver due to alcholism, they should be treated in the same way that we all would like to be treated.

I do not consider your post a gripe, it is a legitimate situation you are dealing with.
Having health problems and trying to get respected treatment is no gripe, it is something you are entitled to.
If the people who are treating you are not respecting you, and are not understanding your feelings and are not comforting they are not doing their job.
If they have the attitude they are doing you the favor by just looking at you, then you do them the favor of seriously, and I mean that, putting them in their place.
These individuals are not walking in your shoes. They have no understanding or caring concerning you health issue and emotions.
It is unfortunate you have these conditions, nothing to do with your fault. You are in the right.
Next time speak up and do not be afraid to do so. You would be surprised to see how this will have an impact on them. Embarrassing them will not be something they will like, so be it, so be it if you go again and if they roll their eyes, or give you a snippy remark, point it out right then and there.
Hold your head up and remember you are a person who deserves respect and will demand it. Being polite does not work with nasty individuals, walk away from that office if you want, or walk out while it is happening. If you still go there then do so and remember you are right concerning your issues and treatment, and they will soon look upon you with a different view.
Sorry for the unkindness you received.
Blessings.

So very sorry for your loss.
I was a member of WW for years & a woman stood up and cried in a meeting because she had a fatty liver & her Dr told her if she didnt do something soon she would die. She eventually dropped out and I don't know what became of her. I think of her struggle often.

You're right, there are other reasons for a fatty liver besides either alcohol or being overweight.
I have a fatty liver and I'm 68, 5'3", weigh 110 lbs. and don't drink.
As another poster mentioned, sometimes it's just hereditary.

I know it's not much comfort to you, but my MIL, a Registered Nurse for her entire life who never, ever drank alcohol, also contracted auto-immune Hepatitis and is tested often for the progression to cirrhosis.
DH also has auto-immune cirrhosis, but not from Hepatitis and he's had a workup done in case he needs a liver transplant in the future.
I can understand people who are not in the medical field making the assumption that someone with cirrhosis is or was an alcoholic.
But NOT medical professionals, they KNOW better!
I'm so sorry you have to deal with this, adding insult to injury.
Praying for your health
Very nice post IG. I could not have said it any better. I will ditto that.
@Luvtuna You are absolutely right and many of us who were exposed to it via patient care held our breath and prayed that we would not get it.
That's how my MIL contracted it, an accidental needle stick from a positive patient.

chiclets--
After reading your post, I had an appointment with my doctor. I mentioned this; my emotions overcame me and I couldn't help it--I started to cry. My doctor said she was so sorry if she'd made me feel like that, and I believe her.
I'm pretty sure she'll be extra careful in the future -- and that's why I like her.
(I thought you'd like to know your words had a good effect on me and my doctor.)

Glad you called. The doctor needed to know her words were not helping a patient who needed some kindness.
