Really, if you're like me and figure you don't have that many more years left, this is one heck of a lousy end to an otherwise very nice life. 

Only by "thinking small" can I get back to handling this genuine nightmare.

When you reach a certain age, you say to yourself ‘what the heck’ (though I’m Friuli and we don’t use nice words like heck) and you’re just tired. I do not want to harm myself or anyone else (and I would NEVER do that), I’m just so tired.

I think it’s okay to just be tired of all the nonsense that comes with life.
