Don;t go back there....i would be suspicious of what he might do to my meal..........find another place...not worth your time and don't contribute financially to their business...

There is no way I would have put up with that server the first time around. I would have gone to the manager to tell him/her about it. I don't understand why or how you and your husband put up with that young man the second time around. My daughter is a manager in a restaurant and even she said the server should have been reported immediately.
One day my daughter and I had dinner out and the young female serving us did an excellent job. I was so pleased that when we were leaving I went to the manager to tell him about her excellent service and he looked at me, laughed and said, "Oh you must be a relative." I didn't think he was funny and I told him no I am not a relative and all I was trying to do was praise a young female who did an outstanding job.
When we got home I called the restaurant and asked if the general manager was available and when he got on the phone I told him what happened. He was very apologetic and asked if there was anything he could do for me, would I like to come back for a free meal and I made it clear I was not looking for anything other than to have someone explain to the young manager that his actions could cause him to lose his job. When a customer is telling a manger about an excellent job a server did it is to be acknowledged with a thank you I appreciate you telling me not a stupid unprofessional remark.
I see the job as a food server as one of the most thankless jobs a person can do. I always leave good tips and let the manager know when the service was exceptionally good. People are always quick to complain so I make sure management knows when a job was well done.

I wouldn't have gone back. If you do & he got into trouble, which it sounds like due to his snide comment, he could tamper with your food or drink. It could be very disgusting. I've seen hidden camera shows that showed waiters adding urine into drinks & boogers to food because they have it on hand aleady when they see that customer come back for more.
If your local paper has a section where you can vent, I'd copy your post so others can see they are possibly getting rinsed out coffee cups and bad service. The manager or owner could read it, too and know that they have to get rid of this guy.

Find another restaurant, don't go back.

Hopefully he was fired.
There's really no excuse for this guy's behavior.

The waiter sounds like he's miserable, dislikes his job, and takes it all out on customers. That is simply unacceptable. He should not be working with the public, especially in the restaurant business.
A few years ago, my husband and I took our granddaughter out to dinner. When it was time for dessert, we asked the waiter if our granddaughter's selection contained nuts. We told the waiter she was severely allergic to tree nuts. The waiter assured us there were no nuts, but when he brought out the dessert, our granddaughter found a bunch of slivered almonds on the bottom of the dessert. Fortunately she had not eaten it. When we told the waiter to take the dessert back, he gave us a dirty look and said the dessert only had a little bit of nuts. What an idiot! We never returned to that restaurant.

The restaurant business seems to be a very difficult business to run and to sustain. My guess would be this one has run it's course and having trouble getting good help.
Time for you to move on.
This past year a casual bar and grille restaurant opened near us. We went twice and the food was very good. The problem was the waitresses - kids themselves, were intrusive acting like your best friend, rather than friendly but businesslike.
The noise level made it impossible to converse. This was due to waitresses talking loudly, bartenders conversing with the waitresses, personal friends with the owner coming in and having loud conversations. It was more like the owner's private party than a restaurant to serve customers.
Well they closed in less than a year in spite of good food because people could not enjoy themselves in that atmosphere. Many people seem to want to operate restaurants, but few know how to successfully achieve that goal.

My daughter is a manager at one of the Darden brand restaurants. They are all corporately owned, so it's probably a lot different than a privately owned or franchised restaurant.
If this had happened on her shift, the first time the server would be put on a 2 table section for a few weeks to get them to hone their skills, the second time they would be told to transfer their tables to another server and be sent home and the third time they would be let go.

I wouldn't have put up with that kind of behavior. I would have spoken to the manager.
I doubt I would have gone back after that.
Sorry that happened to you. I'm sure there are other restaurants that can accomodate your needs and treat you better.

I'm pretty tolerant of fair, and sometimes even poor, service in a restaurant especially if there is understaffing and other issues going on that particular time. However, once I've maxed out my tolerance level, I'm a "One and Done" customer. I definitely believe some of these issues are poor management and lack of training but definitely not all of them and I would have reached my max tolerance level with the first visit you described.
