I totally agree with you. It is no one's business why you do or do not eat eggs, now, next week, never, or every day.
I'm sure you are tired of this subject, but I'm going to add that since the wait staff in your area seems so interested in what you eat you might change to the following:
"This is not what I ordered. I ordered an egg white omelet and this is whole eggs, and it's not an omelet. Please fix it."
You don't owe the wait staff any further information about what you want or need, or your health. This way they have NO information to 'bring to the table' as it were, about your next order.
May I say again, I'd never visit that place again eggs or no eggs, because I'll bet it is standard practice to just rinse dishes if the disher is behind.
Great post! I totally agree.
I just wanted to add that in no way do I think any of this was her fault. It doesn't matter why she doesn't eat eggs/didn't want them that day/wanted them another day/is allergic or not allergic. She's clearly stated here several times that she's following her doctor's instructions based on her test results. Everyone is different, so general information doesn't apply to all. And it's not his business nor is it his place to judge or analyze.
His job is to take the order and bring the food. Period. Even if she wanted whipped cream for lunch and sausage for dessert, it's not his place to belittle and question her, and make snide remarks.
The bottom line to me is that the server was inappropriate and clearly management doesn't care. I'd be wary of that coffee cup situation too, for sure.

Great response! I actually can't believe some of the responses stating their understanding the waiter being confused. Sorry but this waiter wasn't confused, he was just looking for a reason to give a little dig to the OP. It is absolutely none of his concern at all and his job is the take the order and bring it back correctly. He wasn't confused or concerned enough to mention it while she placed the order, only when he brought it back incorrectly and THEN he decided to bring it up, challenging her.

There is no excuse for the treatment you received. Absolutely none. You, as a paying customer, are entitled to receive courteous treatment, and hot, appropriate food, prepared in the manner which you requested --- without commentary and without negative and argumentative attitude.
I think I am like you --- I believe in being fair -- in giving people the benefit of the doubt -- and I do not want to be the cause of anyone losing a job -- however --- this person --- has no business being in this position. In fact, the manager and the owner should not want him to be in their restaurant as he is a detriment to their business.
You were absolutely right to call him on the carpet. Also, I hope that you did contact the manager. If the offending party were not dismissed, I would never return to that place.
Dining out is supposed to be a pleasurable experience and it is a shame that people who have attitudes such as this spoil these experiences.

he deserves a tip?
I would have got the manager and he'd be out of a job.........a total disgrace.

The more I read this the more contradictions I see. You complained to the manager about not getting your order that you asked for and then you went back to that restaurant. You have been told by your doctor not to eat eggs, unless you DO eat them. You got the same waiter again and you didn't get up and walk out. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. The first event was a bad mark for the restaurant for sure. The waiter was totally out of line. That's on them. There should never have been a second chance at that restaurant. That's on you. I'm out of here.

TBH, you're at fault too. Why did you feel the need to create a scene in the restaurant? He recognized you (which is cool in itself) and saying what he said was probably more like "she couldn't have eggs last time, now she can?" I would be confused too. I wouldn't have said anything aloud, mind you, but I can get his stance also.
You could have been a better person and ignored the situation. If it bothered you, go to a manager, but don't confront the waiter.
To me, you sound like someone who wouldn't be happy no matter what happened. You're complaining about a cup (don't have coffee in a restaurant then), then making a stink about an egg. Why be deliberately problematic?
I don't mean to be rude, but think about it from the waiter's side too. He's trying to do his job as well as he can, but it's hard when people are deliberately difficult. This is why I think people should be required to work retail or a restaurant job at least for a year. It's a humbling experience.

@Q4u wrote:I don't think I've ever come here to talk about something that has happened to me, but this was just too weird..... A little background. DH and I enjoy a local Breakfast place that has had some problems with keeping their experienced personnel and because of this the restaurant has gone downhill most of the summer.. And we've been really patient all the way around.... still coming every week or so and it's getting better.
I am Diabetic and don't eat sugar or processed white flour. I rarely eat eggs (although I love them) because of high fat, etc. in order to try and keep my Cholesterol numbers down.
A month or two ago I ordered an egg white omelette from a relatively new waiter. It took forever to come (as did everything that morning) and came with real eggs with nothing in the omelette! Potatoes instead of fruit and other problems. This waiter also brought me a coffee cup that he said he had to rinse out in order to give me because the kitchen didn't have anymore clean coffee cups.
I nicely complained the order was wrong and that I ordered an egg white omelette and he said that they didn't have egg whites that day (didn't mention this when I ordered). I said that I didn't want the real eggs, couldn't eat them (didn't tell him why), and I'd have to think of something else to order.... also, I wanted a disposable coffee cup because unless the cup was sanitized by a dishwasher I wasn't using the cup he brought me!
This was a disaster and his attitude was "Just eat it...." He was really P.O.'d with me and DH that day and we finally, after an hour and a half....walked out!! We've gotten to know the management there and told him that this waiter needs to stop hand rinsing coffee mugs for customers. From start to finish we were seated and sitting there for an hour and a half without getting food or coffee.
We were upset however I did not want anyone to lose their job.... everyone has bad days.
Zoom to today: Today I had blood work done and fasted for a total of 14 hours and as a treat, we decided to go to this restaurant for breakfast and I broke with my strict diet and ordered eggs! We got the same waiter.... no problem from us... he was sure to have improved immensely in the time between then and now. He took our order, brought coffee, cream and water in a timely manner... all was good, I thought. The orders came quickly and he placed mine down and DH's down and said in a condescending way, quickly under his breath "I thought you couldn't eat eggs...." and left before either of us could answer him. I don't anger quickly, I honestly don't.... but I got angrier and angrier as I sat there. How dare this guy! He didn't return for a while either and by the time he came back I was livid at his attitude with me. What the h*ll?
When he did come back I said I wanted to tell him something. I told him that his comment and attitude was unnecessary as none of this was any of his business whatsoever. I explained to him that the eggs were a treat. I'm not allergic to them, I just can't have them. I also told him that his business was to take orders accurately and deliver them timely, NOT to monitor what the customers eat . And certainly not confront a customer over their choice.
He actually started arguing with me about this ridiculous situation! His attitude towards me was condescending, like he was putting me (a woman) in my place because I was daring to argue with him (a man)...and I'm not mistaken about this. I decided to get loud, and that's pretty much what concluded this... but not without him continuing to needle me ~! He wouldn't be quiet about it, it was surreal! DH told him several times it wasn't any of his business. We were in a corner of the main dining room and I'm sure the other diners were now looking (my intention).... but it was my 6'3" ex football husband (who doesn't mince words, LOL).... who said gruffly... "You're DONE.... GO AWAY~!"
Can you believe this? I'm still stunned......
I apologize at the length of this..... I have to leave right now, but if you're kind enough to respond, I'll see your entries tomorrowl TIA
Oh sweetie, you were waaayyy too nice about this entire situation. I applaud you for being so extremely nice and patient throughout this experience. Just tell the waiter, if you ever go back there, that if he were paying good money for the food & service you received that I am sure he would be singing a different tune. Or, you could have asked him if this is the type of service he would have given his parents. I am with you......I am diabetic too, but my local IHOP has been so nice as to carry a really good-quality sugar-free syrup and accommodates my dietary needs. I am of the opinion of your other friends here, you were a sweetheart about the entire situation, but it is time to find a new place to have breakfast or any meal you choose to eat out. Service today does not mean what it used to, I don't think. Wonder how long these people (wait staff) would put up with that kind of behaviour were they on the other end of it.

After the "rinsed coffee cup" situation I would have gotten up and that would've been it for that place, after I had spoken with the manager. But since you felt the need to go back, the minute I saw the same person was going to be our server, I would've asked to be seated in a different server's section. Short and sweet. Says a lot without saying a lot.

No, I'm not angry, so sorry if I came across as that way because I actually appreciate your research and have touched upon it only recently (will delve further). I am just frustrated by some of what I've been reading here.....
But we know we will get many different opinions when we start a thread. It's to be expected. Some will egg you on, others will show you their sunny-side, and others will coddle you and agree with you 100%, so there's no sense in being hard-boiled about it. Just take it over easy, okay?
Oh boy ... after reading all these posts, my brain is scrambled! ![]()

I have one puzzling question, and I have not had time to read through the replies (sorry but I am so short on time right now).
If someone orders an egg white omelet, why can't they make the omelet? They may be out of the liquid egg white in the carton, but they do have eggs, right? Just use real egg whites.
Good point. I was wondering that myself.
Many restaurants use liquid eggs @RainCityWoman which come in a bag and are mixed yolks and whites that are pasturized. They are use for both scrambled eggs and omelets. Actually most restaurants use these now and only use regular eggs for sunny side up, over easy, etc.. A lot of restaurants have shelled eggs delivered daily and have a count on how many shelled eggs they go through in a day. Sometimes they do run out. That is the only possibility I can think of.
I learn something new every day ..... Could there actually a job called Egg Sheller? LOL ![]()
