Hahahaha. I'm sorry but the fact that he told you they have no egg whites, only eggs is making me laugh. Is he that stupid?
But seriously, I'm not sure why you ever went back in the first place. It's one thing to wait an hour and a half (although I wouldn't have) but another to be given a dirty cup. What else was dirty? Did they just wipe off your silverware? Your plate? That's just gross.
But since you did go back, where in the world was the manager or owner when you got into this argument with this guy? I can't imagine someone not coming over to see what the problem is. That would lead me to believe they condone this behavior.

@Q4u I can not believe that you went back...you are a glutton for punishment and I feel deserve what you got... I would have been more worried that the server would have spit in my food OR WORSE.....
There are thousands of restaurants that sell breakfast and you went back to the one that gave you bad food and a rude server? unbelievable!

Not everyone lives where there are "thousands of restaurants" and, just like many of us, the OP and her DH may have a local place they've gone to for years without a problem. (That's what it sounded like to me from her OP.)
There is no excuse for the behavior of the waiter and telling the customer she got what she deserved is wrong on every level.

Some friends and I decided to give ourselves a special treat---we dressed in our finest and attended a concert and afterwards decided to go to a very expensive hoity toity restaurant......I had ordered my steak medium well and instead got a very rare steak and politely told the waiter........Boy they take complaints seriously at this establishment because the waiter came to our table, along with anothr waiter, and the manager and the chef (it was a bit embarrassing)....I stated again very nicely and politely that my steak needed to be cooked a little longer it was supposed to be medium well instead of rare......they couldn't have been nicer and apologized over and over again. But I had to watch others eat and they were on dessert before a new steak was brought to me.....we did get a free appetizer.....but the funny thing was even properly cooked the steak was not seasoned at all....and when the waiter came back to check I asked for salt.....and he looked highly insulted..... We vowed never to return....we've had better food at moderately priced places!!! f

@Venezia THAT SHE RETURNED to the same place is why I said she got what she deserved.... I am sure there is another restaurant besides the one she went to with the bad service and dirty coffee cups. Anyone who would return is just crazy. And to let the same server serve her on top of that?? Amazing.....

@Q4u So did you report him to the owner? We had a waiter that went on a complete tirade because my husband asked for something and the waiter didn't like the wording. What he didn't realize was the my husband has a business relationship with the owner of the restaurant. The kicker was when we could hear the waiter ranting back at the open kitchen about us. We never saw that waiter again when we went back. And yes, my husband did talk to the owner about it.
I worked as a server myself in my early 20s for a few years, I understand bad days and the difference between crappy service and crappy cooks. But you don't get snarky with the customers.

I want to thank everyone for contributing....
To answer if we tipped him. Yes, both times because we know how hard this work is, and I have to say that this is a very small town and there just aren't many places to choose to eat and this one is The Egg and I, the only other one is International House of Pancakes and that one's awful all the time..... McDonalds is better and probably will be visited by us a little more....
We DID talk to the Manager when the first visit turned into an hour and a half. We talked to him regarding the "rinsing out" of the coffee mugs, etc. and he was appalled and he might might have talked to him but we didn't ask, but would explain this guy's attitude towards me....
Thanks for all the support. We really ARE patient regarding stuff like this. We understand that it's not a perfect science and most servers are trying very hard AND this little town is a far cry from the Big City (San Diego) where we lived for decades where we had unlimited places to choose to eat if we wanted to.....
You won't believe this (but maybe you will considering the world today).... but I dreamed last night that he came to our table with a gun.... hoo boy, that's how strange I find him.....

GRRRRRR......
I did every kind of job you can think of to get through school. Food service is hard, thankless work.
However, I get crabby when I'm hungry, so I would have given this man a piece of my mind the first time. Rinsed out cup - yea, RIGHT!
If you know the owner, call him and let him know why you won't be returning to his establishment.

Because we kept thinking it would get better, and everything was dripping in, one item at a time... we knew the restaurant was having trouble and were giving them time to make it right. The coffee came with the mug and his explanation. I wanted a disposable cup, he went away again, eventually I got that. Waited awhile and got the eggs, that was wrong, and I sent that back. He comes back with just potatos (which I didn't order....) it just continued and continued.
We went back because (as I said, there aren't many places to pick from) and we understood the service and kitchen had almost returned to normal, so gave it another try....

The real problem here is the management even though the server should not be taking it out on you. The server was doomed to fail and be upset as he had no clean cups, probably no clean utensils either, ran out of certain foods on menu and if you cant do your job correctly due to poor management (no dish washer and u cant do both server and dish washer) it makes for a miserablwe work enviroment. Top that off with lousy pay and dwindling business. Instead of taking it out on you if I was the server I would be putting my coat on and walking out and on my way past your table I would have warned you to do same. Wiping out a cup does not kill hepatitis nor many other nasty germs......I have seen what some kitchens look like (mice, rats, dirt) so I have no idea why you would go back there after waiting over an hour.....for your own health find somewhere else to patronize as this venue will not last long or will be calling Chef Ramsey to help fix their "Kitchen Nightmare" LOL. You cannot "fix" a server if the management will not first fix themselves. After I saw someone pee in a patrons cup I have never gone out to eat again. Also working with the public I would ONLY do for very good pay as I do not like working with the public.....much worse is bad management who doesnt give a rats rear end. These people get lousy pay, few tips, no insurance or other benefits and at least they shoul have good management and proper tools to do their job. No excusing his behavior but you can at least know maybe what is behind it. Maybe time for server to leave the management "dishwasher-less, server-less until they clean up their act.
