You seem to be confused about the difference between " hoping " and "knowing" .

No one has said that they know that 2021 will be better than   2020, that was an assumption that you made, and you know what they say about when you assume something.

The ball will still drop, but I am 99.99999% certain that the crush of people in Times Square will not happen.

No not confused. Just not going to count my chickens before they hatch. Not going to over hype 2021 if I don't see signs of a recovery. You seem to think I am disrespecting you.  Please know that I am not. I am just adding my 2 cents. Have a good night.

If only the changing of the calendar on Dec. 31st was a guarantee that things would get/be better. 

I don't expect things to be much better than they are right now, maybe worse. I hope not, but I don't have high expectations right now.
