I'm so old, our neighbor had a washing machine with wringer, but we had none.  The diaper man picked up the diapers.  There was a diaper pail.  They were collected, laundered and returned clean.

I'm so old that I completely understand the expression "the cream rises to the top" because @Justice4all 's post reminded me that we had a milkman who left us milk and picked up the empty bottles we'd used.  I remember my mom lifting off the paper lid of the milk bottle and seeing the cream at the top of the bottle, which she'd have to shake up to mix back into the milk.  Yes, cream does rise to the top - I used to see that as a child whenever my mom opened the milk bottle that the milkman had left for us.

My Grandmother had one of these in her basement...we were not allowed near it!  Not that we wanted to go anywhere near something called "the mangler!!"  LOL!

twopeas---oh good because I really enjoyed this subject and I remember many of the pics that got posted. The one of the black and white  off sign on the TV brought me back . Good times, good times!!!!
