For all the good that technology has done, it is probably a big factor in childhood obesity, it has resulted in a new generation of self-absorbed kids and impersonal communication, and it has brought out the worst in some, compromising our personal security.
Technology has not made kids fat. It is the food processors who keep putting more and more sugar into processed food.
I don't see a generation of self absorbed kids, what happens today happened in the past and that was before our technology.
I agree. Our generation (I'm 58) as kids had board games, TV and Barbies if we opted to be sedentary.

I can't remember a day as a kid that I didn't want to play outside whenever I could -- riding my bike, roller skating, ice skating in winter, potsy , red light green light 123, swings, playing ball. Heck, we just liked running in the field. Barbies and board games were reserved for rainy days. I don't think that's the case with today's kids.

I love all the modern technology and conveniences....as much as I like to be nostagic and remember the good old days there is no way I would want to relive those times or give up what I'm accustomed to.
As for the childhood obesity problem....I blame 99% of the problem on the processed foods so many families live on along with fast food....when I was a kid we never ate out of a box or can....the only added preservatives in our food were spices and seasonings .....not all the chemicals the food industry puts into food today with the FDA approval!!!.....we also didn't drink sodas/juices from morning to night.

A quick delicious breakfast today thanks to modern food technology:
Multi grain sandwich thins
Thln low fat sausage patty
Liquid egg
Onion and bell pepper kept fresh in green bags
Cheese kept fresh in air tight fresh saver bag
Slice of on the vine organic tomato grown in Canada.
Only the onion would have been available in my childhood years. Not sure if bell peppers were available year round then.

I've been a technology nerd as long as I can remember, and I definitely made it my career to be "all up in technology."
But good or bad? To me, it's what we make of it. It's not the technology itself that's innately good or bad, it's how people use it that defines it.
The "good old days?" Again, I think it's all a result of what we do with what we have, how we make use of what we're given, and the way time colors our memories of the past.
"Things ain't what they used to be and probably never was." ~Will Rogers
"Nothing is more responsible for the good old days than a bad memory." ~Franklin Pierce Adams
"If you're yearning for the good old days, just turn off the air conditioning." ~Griff Niblack

And modern food technology has enabled the mass production of processed, sugary foods, fast food, so there you have it.

I've mentioned before that my daughter is a real tech person... I am amazed by the apps she finds. She is always so on top of everything by using her iPhone. She knows exactly when buses and trollies are coming, down to the minute, and where they go, of course.
The majority of cabs are now online and you can order one that way, you can also find out how far away the nearest cab is from where you are and how long it will take to get to you.
I follow my MD appointments online, order my meds, and can email any of my doctors at any time and expect to hear from them in less than 24 hours.
Something she needed for work broke yesterday. She got online, ordered a new one and it was delivered to her in JUST A COUPLE OF HOURS with only an extra $5 fee
