I think it depends on the health of the person and the doctor doing the operation.

Re: I'll be off the boards for a while

Wishing you a very speedy recovery insomniac. Tissyanne, I do not believe your mother is correct in her thinking about anesthesia for an elderly patient. My 92 year old friend had general anesthesia when she broke her hip last year, and my 97 year old grandmother also went thru the same many years ago. With many anesthesia options available, there is no reason to put off surgery. For my knee replacement surgery three years ago, I chose an epidural, along with IV sedation similar to what is used in my colonoscopies. I was wide awake within minutes of being moved from OR into Recovery, and the numbness in my legs wore off in two hours. As long as your mother is a good candidate for surgery, there is an anesthesia option for her.

Re: I'll be off the boards for a while

Best wishes with your surgery. I know from others who have had the surgery that they will get you up and walking right away.

It will be good to go to a rehab facility to get your strength and mobility back. Make sure you tell them that you live where there are stairs. They will no doubt make sure you can navigate them before sending you home. Physical therapy is great on working with your needs.

I hope it works out for you and the future will enable you to walk with less pain and issues.

I hope this does not mean you will be away from the trivia quiz also. As a 2-time total knee replacement patient, I can advise you to devote yourself to your rehab program. I took a pain pill an hour before each rehab appointment. Best of luck!

I will be away from the trivia game--I don't have a laptop.

A pain pill before each rehab appointment: this is information I can use. Thanks!

My neighbor is also having a hip replacement tomorrow. He's been in so much pain and has an Akita to walk..I pray they both of you get relief from pain! A fresh start in 2015!
