Another very simple one and one that my mother always said ---

If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything.

I try to do this.  At times it is hard, but I find when I can adhere to this, I am much happier.

Maybe this is why some people are so quiet!

I love this comment!    But better that they are quiet, no?

This may not be a quote, but it is a saying that I once read, and I try to live by it.

"Your day is a success if you've made one person feel better about themselves".

I know at times I've been down and a simple compliment from someone will boost my spirits.

I was at Walmart a few weeks ago and the young man working in the Deli said to me... thank you for being kind and having such a good attitude.  It's so nice to see a friendly smile.    He said we don't always see a lot of that around here.

I hope that somehow I made that young man feel that I appreciated his assistance.

I always want to build someone up, not tear someone down.

@J Town Girl wow, did your post make my day and thank you so much for making that young man's day too, good on you!

A few years ago I stopped off at Chipolte to grab a Burrito Bowl and I kept saying please and thank you as you wind your way through the ingredient stations.  One young man literally stopped dead in his tracks and said "I think you are the first person that ever said please/thank you to me".  I had all I could do to not burst into tears it made me so sad as it really costs you nothing to be kind.

I like that!  Smiley Happy   I am in the habit of thanking people for being kind and helpful, whether it's having to call a company on the phone, or somebody in a store helps me, etc.

People should be appreciated for being nice.  I am a very strong believer of that.

It also makes up for the people who are rude them, probably a fair amount of their day.  Being nice to somebody makes up for a lot of not-nice!  Smiley Happy

Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hands of one who knows how to combine them.

Being kind, is free!! So is being thoughtful! If you think about it, a kind attitude towards others is a free gift for all.
