Re: I just unclogged my sink!

Congrats to @Laura14 and all the other DIY home maintenance specialists! I've been down the clogged drain road and indeed met some highly undesiraable challenges. After overcoming my last kitchen drain "event," I found this marvelous product on A***:

Axe Sickle 200 pcs Sink Strainer Bag Kitchen Mesh Filter Bag Disposable Sink Garbage Bag for Kitchen or Bathroom Sink.

I've bought them several times and stocked up on 600 or so at the beginning of the Covid 19 epidemic in China. I figured that since these little sweeties are from China, the company that makes them might turn into a mask factory. Disclaimer: I don't care where they are made since I couldn't source any manufactured in the U.S.

They are a life saver. That may sound a bit extreme, but the gunk they catch can be mind bending! I change them frequently (2-3 time a week, as needed). They fit over my metal sink drain basket. In addition to my plumbing prophylactic measures (baking soda & vinegar, Dawn and really hot water, not letting any suspicious liquid go down the sink drain), major drain clearing work has been put on hiatus.

Chins up, all, stay positive and wishes for better days ahead.

@noodleann Congrats!  I had done all of that and it had just gotten to the point of lasting maybe a day.  I was so over it.  Luckily this was a bathroom sink so no tools really required or special stuff like that.  Just tupperware, paper towels and hot water with some brute strength.

I plan to throw some cleaner and or vinegar and baking soda down once a month or so.  For some reason the buildup is incredible in this drain.  Never had that happen anywhere else I've lived.  I got its number now though.

I purchased my brand new house 19 yrs ago. After a year, the left sink in master bath would clog. I called Rescue Rooter - then Roto Rooter (scammy high-priced companies). Then I would start using the sink on the right and never had a problem.

Recently I purchased a Drain Cleaner and Clog Remover from Walmart - and I couldn't raise the small drain cover - so I broke it off - and used the long plastic remover (with teeth) - and removed lots of hair. I know that the left sink plumbing wasn't connected properly (although the builder denied it) --- so I deal with it.

The best stuff for clearing pipes and drains is Prof Amos 'max drain' products on hsn. I use their 'maintenance' product when the drain gets slow. They even have a product that's okay for septic systems!. I learrned after one roto rooter visit how to use a snake- and when I found Prof Amos items I'll never need a plumber again for this angst!
