Re: I just let a telemarketer have it!! (Venting post)

I was so sick of the phone ringing from 8 am till 9pm everyday that i have shut off my phones and answer machine...now they can call all they want...i don't hear them...

I will look on my caller  i.d. periodically through the day to make sure it isn't someone important ....and of course if i am near the phone and it lights up...silently...i can see who is calling...

My family i have told to call me on my cell phone...though i get some telemarketer calls on it...but maybe only one a day... i leave it on so i can hear it ring...

It has been such a pleasure now..I am on the DNC list too...a lot of good that does...

Re: I just let a telemarketer have it!! (Venting post)

Don't feel bad, my hubby passed march 6th and I am still getting telemarketing calls for him.   Driving me nuts.  As far as the door, I bought a No soliciting sign at walmart for 99 cents.  Under it I typed a note in large letters.  No soliciting means no selling of any kind.  That means I do not want your tree service, nor do I want to hear about your religion.  I have had no one bother me since.

Re: I just let a telemarketer have it!! (Venting post)

During a very sad day in my families life, I picked up the phone absentmindedly and heard the telemarketer go on snd on. You guessed, I lost my cool that day. I felt so bad that I never handled unwanted surprise phone calls like that ever again. They are doing their pitiful jobs for reasons I don't know. I've learned to handle them kindly now ( if I pick up without thinking) and they usually apologize. I wouldn't want their job.

You did the right thing by venting to them.  Can you imagine making those calls for a living?  Rejection after rejection.  I don't feel sorry for them, however.

Good for you!  During the primary elections I got 3 calls in one day about the same candidate.  On the third call I told them please take me off your call list, I've already had 2 calls today and I'm not voting for her anyway.

I try to be patient if I inadvertently take a call from a telemarketer or pollster. They're just trying to earn a living.

Re: I just let a telemarketer have it!! (Venting post)G

To all those who have posted about the number of telemarketing calls throughout the day and evening, I know exactly how you feel.  I have gone through venting, requesting # be deleted, etc. to no avail.  Sometimes now I will get one on my cellphone.

As for the folks who make these calls, they work for little money in call centers.  They actually vie for the few job openings in the center and have no scheduled work hours. A cousin lived near Daytona, FL and would take public transportation to a center to only be told someone already took her chair for that day.  Because of illness, this was the only type of job she could get / handle.  The conditions there were horrible.

While I feel sorry for those who make the calls, I hate the industry.  I am sure someone out there has fallen and broken a bone getting to the phone.

And, don't get me started on the Do Not Call registry.  I just verified that all our telephone #'s are still active on that list.

Go figure.

Re: I just let a telemarketer have it!! (Venting post)

The OP overreacted.  Most people look at Caller ID and ignore such calls, but if one does not do this, all that is necessary is to state that you are not interested (or in the OP's case that the MIL is not able to come to the phone) and simply hang up.

Being mean and nasty to someone on the phone who is simply doing their job (or in this case, likely volunteering because of concern for the upcoming election) is simply uncalled for.

THis is what caller ID, answering machines, and voice mail are for.

I simply don't answer, delete messages, and don't let myself be bothered by this. The only time I get uptight about it is when people are sleeping (I have one second shift worker and one third shift worker sleeping during daytime hours) and then, I simply turn the ringer off, and let things go to the machine without hearing it.

@mistriTsquirrel I like it fine, no monthly charge.

I don't know how you get it because my husband fixed it for us, just google it and I'm sure you can find out.

Oh, alright.  Thanks!
