Re: I just let a telemarketer have it!! (Venting post)

When they started the do not call list we weren't bothered for a long time. Slowly its been reversing itself.

It is so annoying I buy my phone for my convenience not for that of others.

Political calls are not covered by the DNC list, although that doesn't seem to make a difference.  Sales calls abound despite the list.  You probably reamed out some hapless volunteer who was just trying to support his candidate or cause and help the election process.

share and we have gotten about 7 phone calls in the last couple of weeks.... never owned a time share in our lives.... since it is a robo-call i dont think we can do anything about this.... and if i reject the call  they leave a voice mail.... i feel frustrated!!

It is further irksome that some of them will leave a message, so I ended up turning off my voicemail.    I'm home 99% of the time, anyway, and am seldom on the phone so even if I miss a call I wanted it will be registered on the phone as 'missed call' so I can call back.

Meanwhile, I keep a phone fairly close by me, in the house, and just keep hitting 'block'.   With the phones nowdays, you have the choice of the blocked numbers not even letting it ring, so I like that.

This stuff should be illegal.

Re: I just let a telemarketer have it!! (Venting post)

I get the calls from both parties, so this is not political, either. What bugs me is when they just start talking without asking if this is a convenient time. Often, they call at dinner time. I don't even call my mother without asking her when she answers if I am getting her at a convenient time or not. That's how I was taught as a child, and I still do it! The very fact that pollsters and campaigners do not do that makes me even less inclined to answer their questions.

I have a small recorder near the phone. When a telemarketer calls, I turn it on, and it says, "You have reached a number that does not accept unidentified phone calls.  Please call back when you're not ashamed to identify yourself."  And I hang up.  It's helping!   If I am at the wrong phone, I answer and without saying hello, I just repeat that phrase.  Unfortunately all these telemarketers have multiple phone numbers, so I may never get them all.

I've been there myself.  I understand they have a job to do, but do it during the day.  If I want to answer their questions, I will, but don't call here anytime after 6:00PM.  That's dinner and family time.

My Hubby and I go to bed about 8 PM.  I get calls  as late as 9PM! It is only going to get worse.....I did just purchase a new Panasonic  phone from HSN with call block and has 5 star reviews. It should be here today anytime.  I look forward to the call block.

When caller ID shows me that the call is unwanted I either let it ring or, if I'm close to the phone, I press talk and then immediately press off to stop the ringing and end the call without talking to the caller.
