Mom used to read anything she could get her hands on. She loved to read. My sister does too, but I think she's partial to Stephen King and I'm going to try and get back into it. Maybe I need to try variety, till I find what fits for me. ?? I'm going to use the lists recommended books in this book club section and see what works.
Are you fairly easy to satisfy on what you read, or do you like the variety of reading that others seem to?

I don't usually care for science fiction, westerns, and fantasy, although if the book is well written, I would read it despite it's genre. I love Larry McMurtry's westerns, so I don't rule anything out, even though I normally wouldn't pick up a western.
I do like a variety of books, including historical fiction, mysteries, and literature from around the world. I don't mind an occasional romance as long as it's not too sappy.
I read fiction for relaxing and non-fiction to educate myself. Lately, I've been reading about 80% non-fiction to 20% fiction, which is the opposite of what I usually do.
If a book doesn't engage me within the first chapter or so, I often won't finish it. What's the point? Yes, some books get better as you get into them, but a great book is great from the get-go, and there is a long list of great books out there that I can't wait to dig into.

I usually tend to read the same type of books - I like thrillers and mysteries. I can read romance novels or a biography/auto biography if it's someone I'm interested in learning more about.
I don't like science fiction or historical novels. And if I start reading a book and don't like it, I also won't waste my time reading it. There are too many good books out there to read!

I enjoy British fiction/literature and biographies. I'm not a particular fan of historical novels, sci-fi, or suspense.
If I like an author, I'll read other books by her/him.

I will read just about anything. I have my favorites, but I like to "check" out what others are reading. Give every book a chance because some days you may like something that on any other day you wouldn't even consider. I have to be in certain moods for certain styles. Never dismiss a book .... you might want to read it later.

Like I said on another thread, I go to the search feature of either B&N or amazon.com and "search" for a book I loved. I scroll down and see what else is written by that author or is recommended because I liked said book. I've found some read treasures there.

I generally read by author. I'll try one I haven't read before but if the writing is substandard, I don't finish it. I like British authors.
I don't read romance novels because the writing is poor quality and I don't care if some woman finds the man of her dreams.

I do not read romance novels or science fiction. I do enjoy some mysteries, historical novels and some nonfiction. If a read a book I really like I will check what else this author has written. I also read the book reviews in the Sunday paper, check the books out at Costco and go by friends recommendations.

I will read or at least start anything that holds my interest and is well written. I get great recommendations from GoodReads.com and Librarything.com.
