Nope! Never do lifelong running! It's bound to come back and haunt you! I'm an avid walker, that's all I do is power walk. A big NO on running. It's too hard on the knees.I just turned 70 and my Fitbit has recorded that I walked over 1,700 miles last year in 2023. Switch to walking. JMO

@ID2 And what is your scientific basis for this assessment? Running is excellent cardiovascular exercise at the proper weight, with the proper form, and with the prober shoes. In fact, running can decrease one's likelihood of arthritis. I know people much older that you who enjoy running as much as you enjoy walking.

@Love to Run   Yes you are correct.  If I have arthritis I don't know it yet and I'm 68.  I think the treadmill is definitely gentler on my aging joints and as I said, the pavement pounding after doing the tread for months didn't help me.  I'm tall but not a big woman.  At 5'11 I weight 150 pounds and that's great for my height.  I have maybe gained 20 pounds since high school, but that's typical age related weight gain to me.  I have never been overweight in my life and that too super stresses joints.  While I will walk until I can run again, I won't give it up yet.  My 43 year old daughters regular running buddy is 73 and keeps up with my daughter.  Lifelong runner and she's tall too but really small and in great shape.

My personal motto to myself is 'Don't over-do anything'.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

@bmorechick Good for you! When I lived in Memphis I had an Ortho that was also a runner, she really understood that telling a runner not to run is like telling someone not to breathe😂 I really miss her.

As I get older I may switch to running trails for a softer surface, I just hate the "dreadmill"😂 Anyway I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Re: I have runners knee😣😫

I have one arthritic knee, I ride my stepper daily, I think this is good for my knee because it remains straight on the stepper, cycling made it hurt worse.
