I have an even better idea.  You can make a "scarf tree" (by fashioning a cardboard "tree" or even using branches and twigs if you're crafty) and take it to a Nursing Home or Senior facility (or even a children's hospital) and let each person choose a scarf.  It will brighten their day and make you feel good.  :-)

That's a lovely idea, @dex, but it's not the same as littering a public park with various items.  I strongly suspect there are regulations against it, no matter whether they're pretty scarves or random strips of paper.  Just guessing, though.

What a sweet thought, @SaRina!

In the small town where I live we have a very vibrant knitting group and we all knit scarves, hats and mitts then Christmas Eve early in the morning we put them all together go down to our little town park and decorate all the trees.  Each has a handwritten note attached with good wishes.  We have a lot of very poor men and women some are homeless, some are vets -  this helps to keep them warm.  We had so many items last year we also put a box inside the door of the homeless hostel.  It is very rewarding to be on the High Street and see someone wearing your scarf.

Let us know what happens and be sure to remove any that are not taken after a reasonable time.

If items are tied around trees or plants and left without loosening, they may cause damage to the tree/plant.  (I can explain further if you're not already aware.)

Also take care not to leave any loops that animals could get tangled in or caught by.  You might want to walk there every day after leaving them just to be sure.  After all, you are now responsible.

This reminds me of the practice of leaving paperbacks on a train, or park bench, or somewhere for the next person to enjoy, only with more possibilities for something to go wrong.

For some reason, I keep thinking of Isadora Duncan.

I like your idea...one of my main fund raiser is for The Shriners Childern's Hospital.

I will give it some thought about the Nursing Home.

Or I could take some scafs to where the Seniors go out for lunch in our town...the seniors lunch cost them $2.50 with a desert too.   Nice food.

But right now the gifting is free for those that walk in the park daily.

I do love the idea of sharing and hope that people need the scarves.I prefer to give my things away rather than donate to goodwill to sell to people that can't afford to shop in other stores.I love the little stand in Canada that the woman has in her front yard.I think it really fulfills a need in that area and is very thoughtful.

I like the idea of having a tiny stand with sign to take what they need or want.   But I would not be around.   Just place scarves on a table in the park with sign.
