My husband is an avid deer hunter. So, I have no problem with hunting.
They need to be culled out because their population is growing all the time. There are limits on how many you can kill for the season. And, they are still populating like crazy.
We have plenty of deer roaming freely in my neighborhood. People feed them. I feed them. Am I going to go hunting? - probably not. But, hunting serves a purpose - they need to keep the deer population down so they can survive.
it also serves another purpose - if you don't want to eat deer meat, there are plenty of shelters and such that will gladly take it after it is processed.
And, I don't want anyone to be offended. Hunting is not for everyone.

I could never hunt an animal but I understand the need to keep the deer population in check. I had a student of mine show off a picture of her kill to me one fall. I also have a family member that hunts.

We simply cannot have unchecked populations of deer eating crops and menacing our highways. I love to see them too as they're beautiful but they can rapidly get out of hand. There simply is not enough space or forage for all of them.
....
And they're covered in about a million ticks as well. A small deer somehow got over the 5' fence and didn't make it. We called the fish and game and they wanted it to do tests. My husband had to tie a rope on it to drag it out, the ticks were swarming the rope just like ants. I cringe when they jump in my back yard with my dogs.
This has been a weird year for both moose and deer here. The mild winter we had last year. They've about destroyed my trees.
This used to be a full tree.

Above paragraph is this writers personal opinion. If there is a sincere need to hunt and fish OK, DONT POST IT. I will be forced to to take pictures of my food I have hunted.

Are you going to wait until it's digested or what.

Already I have seen half a dozen deer lying on the road or side of the road on the highway close to where I live. There are way too many of them. They cause so many accidents and die horrible deaths. My son had a friend in highschool whose mother hit a deer and the hoof came through the windshied and struck her right in the head. She was killed instantly. Shooting them, imo, is more humane.

I think the hunting to thin them out is, i guess what has to be done,i just hate hearing all the guns going off,i am surrounded by woods, i love seeing the deer, but this past winter coyotes, killed a deer in the yard ,next to me, that was horrible.

I will never understand those who hunt for enjoyment. As far as thinning out the herd, they don't know if they are killing the strongest or the weakest, mother nature takes care of that.

It's sad that the deer over-population problem is a completely man-made problem.
We've destroyed or driven out the predators who kept prey animal populations under control.
I suspect those states, like PA and W VA mentioned here, have no or few natural predators left.
I would love to see more natural controls of deer populations put into place. We've messed up the food chain. We should fix what we've broken.
