I vowed when I was young that I wouldn't be/talk/act like my parents when I got their age. Well, I've become them! I guess every generation goes through this as they age, but it does seem like so many things in our world have been changing at a much more rapid rate than ever before. I think this is what makes it harder to accept and adapt.
I like to think that I'm pretty open-minded, but I just don't see a lot of common sense out there anymore.
I so wish you were my neighbor . . . we could have coffee and talk . . . .
We sure would--especially if that little guy in your avatar is yours! Adorable beyond words!!!
I wish we could too on many different levels. That was my Chloe and I lost her this January. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of her. Thanks for saying so, she was an absolute angel!
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. We just lost our little Lhasa in December, which is why your avatar hit me so. And I agree, we talk about our little girl every day and how much we miss her, too. I still can't speak of her without tearing up. So I really know where you're coming from. And now your little Chloe is an angel once again; don't you know that they're both waiting for us, too!
And right back at you! I also had a Lhasa a long time ago . . . smartest dog I ever had. And beautiful too. They are so great when they are with us and they are so hard to give up. I'm glad they are all in such good company over the Rainbow Bridge! ![]()

I was a referee in Youth Hockey and a few years after this nonsense about self esteem became more important than the game itself? The kids changed as did their respect for authority in the games.
They were "owed" a trophy win or lose. A few years after this "revilation" took hold, I decided to referee Adult Only hockey games only. Youth Hockey kids and their parents were more than I wanted to deal with in something I previously really enjoyed.

I think you may be confusing 'self-esteem' with a 'sense of entitlement'. There is nothing wrong with encouraging self-esteem in young people. We should all have that. One of the causes of bullying is the lack of self-esteem in many of the bullies, and thus, the need to pick on someone they believe is weaker.
Now what had been termed the 'entitlement generation', I believe some of this is the way they were raised. I know that for my generation, many of us decided that we did not want to raise our children in the way our parents did and in some ways that may have gone too far. To be clear, I am not saying this is the cause for all the woes nor is the case for all parents of my generation.

We should break into song and dance.

What makes you assume I'm talking about kids? I have already stated it was directed toward people like the anti vaxers. It appears some don't read the entire threads around here

cherry: wadr - your opening post did not mention anti-vaxers; you mentioned "families" which would included children. You then went on to say that drafting kids would be a good idea.
It's only logical that posters gravitated to the concept of misbehaving kids.
We are not required to read entire threads; some are miserably too long for starters. And since threads are fluid it's unrealistic to assume that the only comments would be about anti-vaxers.
I've enjoyed the comments here regardless of what everyone had to say. It's like starting a thread about any topic; posters will branch out and that's fine.
