I am half way through the process of two implants for my front teeth. One was badly infected and the other was crowding over the infected one, so both were pulled. My oral surgeon used novacaine for both pulling and putting in the implant posts. I didn't feel any pain during the process, but the ratcheting of inserting the implant posts was unnerving. My recovery after pulling the teeth took a few weeks but after the implant posts only that day. I ate a lot of scrambled eggs, yogurt, pasta etc.
The most painful part of the process is writing the check to pay for it! I had another one done last year and the costs mount up. But, it has to be done!

@Northray wrote:Did it hurt? I ask because I'm getting two next week. My Doctor said he would do mine under local anesthesia. I'm a little scared about that. I'm talking about the screws. Because the "crown" or whatever they call the part that looks like an actual tooth will be done a month later.
It didn't really hurt it was just a lot of pressure and since I did 4 the novacaine started to wear off so he gave me more. I think one or two wouldn't be bad but doing four at once was a lot.
Ah, okay, good to hear. Thank you and speedy recovery.

Hi @ByrdieK
Are you saying that Implant was infected & the other Implant was crowding it?? Or the original teeth to be replaced with Implants?

I have a total of 9 implants. I simply swallowed crowns.Probably with my luck I would have swallowed a denture.
And I had no option. I have been very pleased with no downtime or problems. This has been over a five year period. I could have bought a car with the payments even after insurance helped me out but atleast I am happy and have had no problems going forward.
Enjoy your new teeth. YOU MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. One of my front teeth was infected and the tooth beside it was overlapping. Both teeth had to be pulled. When they were pulled I got a "flipper" to fill in the space. The gums had to heal for several months before the posts for the implants were put in. Now I'm waiting for the posts to fully heal and then the crowns will be put in. It is a fairly long process of about six months. I did not have to have a bone graft. The infection cleared up quickly after the tooth was pulled. I did take antibiotics for a few weeks.

@spumoni99 Four implants at one time, is a lot. You must be very sore right now. I hope that you are enjoying some ice cream, yogurt and milk shakes.
Hopefully you will be pain free soon and very happy with the beautiful results.
Cheriere recently had several implants and there are many
suggestions in her thread, that people gave for some soft food options. If you need to have soft foods at this time, you may
like to read her thread.
Good luck with your recovery. You are braver than I am.

Allergic to novacain. Going with a local for two implants. Used to doing all dental work without any pain killers. I'll be fine.

@Northray
I'm having mine (two teeth removed and two implants done) on 9/26/24. Yes, mine also includes the "screws". However my recovery will take three months before I have my DDS make the covers (or final teeth).
I'm surprised you will have yours finished in one month! Will your gums be fully healed and ready to be covered?
