Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

Public fireworks shows are amazing. The idiots who insist on setting off their own when the hills are dry as a bone and we are in a red alert for wildfires should be shot.

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

I wonder who started fireworks with holidays. Probably Ben Franklin. lol I like to look at them but I do not like when inexperienced people set them off in their yards. Not only does it bother the dog (he is sound sensitive) but also it is so dry, they could start a fire. They are illegal in NJ. Fireworks at the shore are a weekend occurrence at the boardwalks all summer.

I agree with you about not liking the holiday. It is usually a time to get drunk, act rowdy and cause accidents where I live at the seashore.

Re: I dread the 4TH of July anymore.

Can you imagine if all the people who spend that money on fireworks, donated the money instead, to hungry children, or other charities? What an impact, instead of just burning it up.

I wish people could just be happy with the professional, local fireworks displays. It's enough.

Around here, it's the charities that set up the booths and sell the fireworks.

Charities and local churches.

So, in a way, people are donating to them.

That, and supporting China. I'm a little sensitive on this topic. My dd got hurt very badly by a firework that went off wrong. The burns were very bad and took a lot of treatment and long term healing. So much for careful handling of them.

In my state, people buy fireworks on the Reservations. There are illegal fireworks sold there, and they are taken off the Reservation. That's why every year there are injuries, houses set on fire, and M-80 blasts. They began last night in my neighborhood.

Took a walk through the neighborhood one 4th of July, and saw this dog race across the road and run into a culvert. No one could get it to come out because the sound of fireworks in the distance really scared the poor thing.

I have a ten month old kitty, I have been wondering how she'll take the loud booms...

But I do love the holiday. I've decorated already, lots of patriotic memorabilia collected over the years, and a few Jim Shore items, too. The mantel is covered {#emotions_dlg.w00t}

I also have our menu picked out, DD said, "THAT many salads?" LOL
