I think they even run those ads online, I usually stream their programs.

My local PBS shows the best of their programming during pledge time.
Me too. Yes, I may buy CDs or DVDs I'd normally not purchased. I've enjoyed almost every one. We've also attended some great concerts.
I'd rather suffer through pledge drives than endless commercials.

Don't you get it? It's a draw, just to get people to watch and pledge. I refuse to fall for that snake oil marketing.
Snake oil?
It's to pay for the programing we all love. Surely you've noticed PBS isn't running ads for Viagra, etc?
Ads pay for programing, PBS needs funding and much of it comes from those who financially support the stations.

Here, too. I really like watching the Rick Stevens shows.

I rarely watch PBS. Just Downton Abbey and Antiques Road Show mostly. When Mr. Selfridge comes on I'll watch. Otherwise, like the OP said it's just hawking memberships half the time.

ITA. So much whining here about PBS pledge drives.

We don't seem to have those infomercials with the doctors on PBS. Maybe they air in the wee hours here?

So someone expressing an opinion is now whining. Got it.

Actually I didn't mean this thread, I am thinking of previous threads, in which a few complained about "money-begging" on PBS. Stuff like that, yes, it's whining.
