I do watch PBS, and I'd watch more often if

everytime I turn to one of the multiple PBS stations there was something on other than ANOTHER hour plus long doctor infomercial telling me the next miracle cure diet to stop aging/menopause/brain degeneration/weight gain....... It's ridiculous. Every night. I catch the newshour most of the time and Call the Midwives when it's on (new season starts soon) but any other time I look to see what's on it's more junk.

They seem to run this type of program incessantly during Pledge drives. I also tune out during these periods.

Same here. Our local PBS has those infomercials, too. They sell 'health' books, music, etc. Our local PBS produces about 2-3 cooking shows per year,( A is for Apple, Z is for Zucchini). They will demonstrate a recipe, then have a 15 minute pledge break, and try to sell the cookbook that goes with the show. The shows are several hours long. I always see the cookbooks at the second-hand stores. I guess times are tough for anyone that depends on donations.

The pledge drives do nothing but drive me away from PBS. It's a shame because it's my favorite thing to watch usually.

There are more than one PBS stations available in many areas. There are three in the Bay Area, all with different programing at the same time. There's always something to watch other than the lectures.

I like the English mysteries, NOVA and the history and genealogy programs where they investigate who and where people's ancestors came from.

If you have cable, you might want to check to see where additional PBS stations are. I don't have cable hooked up to two of our TVs, but both get the three PBS stations anyway.

The pledge drives remind me to pledge. I do the automatic pledge.

My local PBS shows the best of their programming during pledge time.

You must live in the Bay Area where they're lucky enough to have multiple PBS channels to choose from. I miss the Friday night British Mysteries out of Channel 54 in San Jose...

Anyway, I totally agree with you and our entire STATE has only ONE PBS channel.

Don't you get it? It's a draw, just to get people to watch and pledge. I refuse to fall for that snake oil marketing.

I remember when KQED out of San Francisco used to have Antique Auctions each year. Oh, my, what fun!!! I purchased some beautiful and gorgeous things at those auctions over the years. What fun!
