@SportyShorty07 Sorry to hear that, you sound like an excellent candidate. I don't understand why they can't tell you why you didn't get into the academy. Are there any kind of restrictions or requirements that could prevent someone from being accepted? Age, height, weight, etc? Doesn't make sense for them not to disclose Woman Frustrated

@Estellee  Thank you so much Smiley Happy! I don't know why they can't tell me why I didn't get into the academy and why I can't appeal it.  I just feel bad about all of the reference letters people had to take time out of their days to write- I play bingo every month with a group of lovely seniors and each and every one of them believed in me so much that they hand wrote reference letters.  I'm grateful for the time that everyone took in advocating for me, I really am.  Maybe I'll never know the answers as to why I wasn't selected- and I'll have to make my own closure on this.  I just wish that I could know why.  It feels like a bad break up! Smiley Frustrated

@SportyShorty07 I want to add a little levity here knowing you are as much of a fan of the Bachelor/Bachelorette shows as I am. Can you imagine getting a job with the franchise and securing and guarding the mansion and travelling with the contestants everywhere. Sounds like a dream job!

@Estellee  Oooh that would be so amazing!! Now that'd be another dream come true for sure Smiley Happy. I'm really looking forward to Jen's season as The Bachelorette and I can't wait for the next season of The Golden Bachelorette Smiley Happy

@SportyShorty07 Can you imagine getting all the scoop in real time as it happens at the mansion, dream job! I'm looking forward to the next season of the Bachelorette and also the Golden Bachelorette too.

@Estellee  The inside scoop would be fascinating Smiley Very Happy! Front row seats to the catfights and hearing the juicy gossip from the girls on The Bachelor! Finding out who is there for "the wrong reasons" and directly witnessing "the most dramatic season finale ever!" Smiley Very Happy

@SportyShorty07 How would someone get a security or policing type job working for them anyway?

@SportyShorty07

even my family's Orkin pest control man told me that one time

lolol!  If he said it it must be true (g)

I have a soft and kind voice too. Some people have to ask me to talk louder. I have difficulty pronouncing my R's correctly.  A speech therapist once told my parents I needed to have my tongue clipped underneath but that didn't help. I know what other person with the same speech impediment . Everyone likes how I talk except me.  That and my Southern accent have worked magic on the phone with male phone jockeys.  So when I make a call and I know I'm going to have to be persuasive and Charming, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's a man.  I'm nice to everyone on the phone though, man or woman.  I wrote a letter to a company once and the president of the company called me back. He said he wanted to hear the voice of the person who wrote Such a convincing and well written letter.  He said if I was ever looking for a job he'd hire me on for his PR Department 🤪  the company was iRobot.

@Carmie  Thank you so very much for your kind words and most importantly, I have great admiration and respect for your husband and son for their courageous work in law enforcement Heart!  It seems to be a stressful, full contact combat job with a lot of split second decisions- your husband and son are true heroes. You're right about other jobs in law enforcement that can also be meaningful and impactful- I'll definitely research those.  I'll keep my dreams alive wherever they take me Smiley Happy

@Sooner

It seems like these days police officers, being well within their right to use it, frown upon deadly Force 🤨

@haddon9  Thank you for your kind words! In my city, hundreds and hundreds apply- it was a lofty goal, but I figured I had just as much of a shot and right as anyone else to apply Smiley Happy. I'm small and mighty and I tihnk I just wish that they could've given me a chance- if they didn't feel I was capable during the academy I would accept it- its the fact that I had to try and try and go through two and a half years to get this far that disappoints me.  I gave it my all, put my heart on the line and I have no regrets- except that I wish I could've had the confidence to pursue this when I was younger Smiley Very Happy

@Estellee Good question!  I'm not sure- but whoever has that security job is living The Bachelor Nation dream! Smiley Very HappyHeart

@elated  Thank you very much for your support!  The interesting thing is, they weren't aware of my hearing disability since I didn't have to take a physical yet, but you are right- maybe that would've been a factor.  I had speech therapy growing up and my left ear has excellent hearing- I may need hearing aids down the road, but have done well with my hearing so far in terms of compensating for the partial deafness. I really admired my speech therapist- maybe that's a career that I could look into? You are right- I can find causes I care about and pursue them and find ways to help my community.  I volunteer and that's fun, but maybe I can find a way to help more people.

I have one other suggestion that you need to do every year. Check Annual Credit Report.com. There might be something on the report. It is free and you can check all three credit bureaus. It is just another way to verify all information is correct. Employers do check it. Again, life is full of setbacks but you need to stay strong. Take care.

@monicakm Haha when that Orkin pest control 20-something complimented my voice I thought he was trying to hit on me and then he said, "Its so comforting- you sound like a mom or an aunt Smiley Wink- like you could put me to bed or make me feel better!" Smiley Very HappyHeart.  I had trouble saying R's as a kid too- when I was going to speech therapy at the beginning, I'd cry and try to say "it's too hard" and it came out as "it's too haawwwd!" Heart  Oh I bet you have a great voice- the lovely Southern accent, the quick wit and the kindness and charm- you could do voicover work or narrate books on tape or work in PR! That's so great that the president of iRobot called you! Wow, you make an impact wtith your words and heartfelt letters!

@elated  Thank you very much for the credit report tips Smiley Happy! I checked mine last year and it was fantastic and I pay my credit card in full every month so it should still be a great credit score- I'll definitely check out annual credit report dot com. Smiley Happy
