Oh, my goodness. I would never put my cell phone in my pocket, I wouldn't want it to slip out plus it's too big for a pocket anyway. I have a Galaxy 7 Edge and it's waterproof for 30 minutes. I love that feature. I haven't had to use it yet but it's nice to know that if it should fall into water, nothing bad will happen.

I don't have the bigger iphone, and no matter what I may need to get as a replacement, I don't want to get a bigger model. At times, a phone needs to be small enough to fit in my pocket. Usually, I'm aware it's there and not having to go off and use a restroom during these times.
Sometimes life gets in the way of our regular routines. I've had four generations of sick family members and I need to have my phone close by.

I wish I had that luxury! I have a handicapped adult in the immediate family and must be reachable at all times. That means the phone must be on my person so I can feel it vibrate if I'm in a situation where the sound is turned off. That's also why I have a smaller sized phone, so it will fit in a pocket. Unfortunately, that doesn't always work out so well, lol!

I hear ya, @september! That's why my phone was in my pocket, too

Don't turn it on for about 5 days. Keep it buried in the rice.

I know that's the recommendation, but it was already on, so I haven't messed with it.
I've been using it while in the bag of rice and can see it will need to be charged within the next 24 hours, so can't keep it in there too long.

I'm so sorry for the "baptism" of your phone so I'll tell you a little story so you'll feel better
.
Probably the 2nd year of the I iPhone I was in the Apple store at the Genius desk when this rather distinguished gentleman came in with his 15 or 16 year old son. He had his son speak for himself. The kid kept telling the genius that his phone just "stopped working". When questioned repeatedly if it was submerged in water he denied it. His father just glared at him. The genius got out a reagent, used it, and it turned fuschia, a strong positive for dampness. The father took it from there, saying loudly, "I just wanted to see if you would repeat the bald faced lie you told me to the expert, and dam*ed if you did". The man paid the huge price for a new phone but let the kid know that it was only because the circumstance demanded he have a phone and that Ded would "work out a repayment plan". The entire counter packed with people looked at each other and gave each other the
look and a lot of tsk's tsk's were muttered.
The morale of this story is the kid would have saved himself a lot of embarassment if he would have just been honest with Dad after it happened.
And, @september, better your husband than this Dad be the person you report this to, right?
.

@september wrote:I dropped my cell phone into a toilet! I usually never have my phone in my pants pocket....circumstances were different today and I had to have it close by.
I immediately grabbed it, dried it off, and my friend got me some rice. It's still alive, but acting a bit wonky.
I checked the online info for tips and the number 1 tip seems to be to remove the battery, but you can't do that with an iPhone.
I may need to buy a new phone tomorrow. Was not planning on this! My husband and son wrecked phones this way in the past.

@deedledeedeedle. Funny story!
My son was the first one in our family to have this happen...he owned up to it, right off the bat. He dropped his phone into the dorm toilet and was actually more concerned with disinfecting it, than whether or not it still functioned.
Now that he has two kids...he has one of the water resistant phones. Smart choice!

Well at least it wasn't a public toilet?-- Can't stand when someone in the next stall is yacking away and then flushes- what must the person they're talking to think? Gross! (they say your phone is one of the germiest things you use everyday! and yeah- think about it!)

Now we'll know you as "wonky-September". LOL![]()
We just ordered one and it should be here Friday. Are there little life jackets for those? LOL. I lost an earring that way.
