Hugs to all who need one. I realize this is very inadequate but it's heart felt. And it warms my heart to see such good will and support being given to each other on this thread. Kind of answers the question on the infamous thread on the meaning of the season.

Been there, done that, decades ago. Some of the counselors/therapists are nuttier than fruit cakes and need help themselves. I try to use common sense and stay away from toxic, abusive people.
The self-knowledge and self-awareness an individual has (or doesn't have) affects whether they can be helped or even need to be helped, by therapy.

I actually didn't mean to "heart" this comment , no offense.
I don't know why this would amaze you that people who truly had a lot of trauma would find common ground and try to console another human being who is going through the same thing. I think it is a beautiful thing that people can come here anonymously and tell others things they might not feel safe enough to share with those they see everyday for fear of judgement. This OP and others responding to her have felt shame, guilt and anxiety over something they had no control over. It is very common for people to feel more comfortable "spilling their guts" as you put it to mortal strangers precisely because of the shame and guilt they carry with some of these traumas dating back to childhood. It isn't easy especially for those who grew up in a home where having feelings were considered a bad thing. Telling a stranger is easier precisely because you don't have to see the person everyday and worry about judgement.
It is a very good thing that the majority of posters responded in a positive way and I am sure in doing so, it helped them a little too, making them feel a little less alone.
I think it is amazing that someone could share something so personal that has been very painful for them and another person could answer in such a cold and insensitive way.

Thank you again to all of the posters who are continuing to share their stories. My goodness, I had no idea so many of us have gone through, and continue to go through, these types of family hardships. I'm humbled because some of you have been through far worse than I. Just goes to show, we see everyone here on a daily basis, and yet we never really know what others are going through in their personal lives. It makes you want to be even kinder and gentler to those around you. ![]()

@esmeraldagooch Thank you for your suggestions! I will definitely be looking into these readings.
@chickenbutt I could relate to much of your post... especially the part about wondering what kind of person you might have been had you not been burdened with such a difficult childhood. I'm so sorry for what you went through. But I've been posting with you on these boards for years, and I think you're pretty spectacular. Big hugs to you...

Your anger today is something of an epiphany, I understand all too well..
You can, and will overcome...
I wished I could give you two hugs, one for standing up to him today, and another for all those who wish they COULD, and sadly, never will...
@Mothertrucker Thank you for the (two!) hugs. ![]()

Hope you find calm in this storm! God Bless.
I have never been a particularly religious person @Zhills, but this quote really spoke to me. For me, it's about love, and it's a beautiful statement. Thank you.
