Re: I bought 4 paperback books today

@gidgetgh

Wow!  That's why I go straight to the bargain table or racks at the back of the stores!  Do you have an Ollie's near you?  I recently bought 5 books - all new - some hardbook and some paperback and I didn't pay anyways near that.  Also, places like Books a Million, etc. always have sale books in the back of the store.  How about Half Price Books?  They have some new books, but a lot of them are gently used, they have a great selection and the price is so much better.  I never pay full price unless it's a book that I absolutely cannot do without.  I have about 5 books on my list right now that I will keep checking around until they are marked down.

Re: I bought 4 paperback books today

I read a lot. After 50 years of working, many of those years working two jobs, I never had time to read and it's one of my favorite passtimes. I've noticed the price going sky-high in the past year. I love a new book: the smell, the feel, the experience of opening up a brand new book. I read paperbacks while I'm on an exercise machine each day so paperbacks are easier to handle than hardcover. If it's a special book that I want to add to my library, I'll go with hardcover. Amazon has good deals on books, you just have to really look for them, and new editions rarely are on sale. We have a local independent bookstore that I like to frequent about once a month just because I don't want to live in a town that doesn't have a bookstore. I've considered recently going to our thrift stores to shop but have to research how to sanitize them before reading. When I'm done with a book, I give to a friend who has a Little Library outside her home.

I know this is far off from your original post but I got chatty--sorry. I know the recipient will love her books.

@ByrdieK Thanks for the information!  I enjoy purchasing books as presents.  I know a few avid readers and they enjoy a good book.

@gidgetgh Nice gift!  I am now curious.  What titiles did you get?  I am always looking for something new to read.  I am sure your sister will be delighted!

Colleen Hoover is a very entertaining writer. She was a regular on the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award (ABNA) forums for several years and was a really fun person to chat with. Her first best-selling novel missed the cut for the 2012 ABNA but she's done pretty well with it since then.

Ok, so again, 2 of them were gifts for my sister so a library card wouldn't work for those. Neither would audio books. She likes to read actual books.

And I bought mine on a whim to see if I can get interested in reading again.  If a miracle happens and I do, a library card would be great.

@gidgetgh Have you ever tried using a 6" ruler under each line as you read across? It can sometimes be helpful with maintaining focus.
