I'm not quite ready to end the season. I love, love, love the holidays. My tree won't come down until after New Years. I will probably leave my "winter type" decorations up until the end of January ~ or later. I love all of the timer lit candles that come on in the evening. It's a fairyland.

Me too twopeas..I leave the candles in the windows all though the winter months..I find it very comforting!

Re: I am looking forward to things getting back to normal with Christmas over

I'm one of the folks that mominohio mentioned who had to take their tree down today due to health issues. DH and I agreed that this years decorations were some of the prettiest we've had. It was not joyful having to pack them away so soon.

However ,my allergies (severe), and asthma, couldn't take one more day no matter what we wanted. I was hoping to leave the tree up as long as possible, decorating it later on with rustic things like pine cones and such. I'm grateful to have had it all up most of December though, and got some really nice photos to help me remember how I did things, should I want to recreate things in a similar way next year.

It's such a personal matter to decide what style to decorate, how much decor, or how long you want thing leave things up. I don't feel much Christmas spirit from anyone trying to make another person feel bad for decisions affecting their own home. What's that supposed to accomplish? pinky

Re: I am looking forward to things getting back to normal with Christmas over

when I was young -- back when dinasaurs roamed the earth -- most people did not put up their decorations until a few days before Christmas -- only one family we knew did for one of their childrens birthday in mid December. Shopping in earnest never started until the day after Thanksgiving. I think most took the tree down around New Years day -- probably because the trees were dry in heated homes and started dropping needles. I know my mother fretted all the time it was up about fire.

Now I only decorate a little -- no actual tree this year -- but leave them up until Jan 6 which is twelth night or Ephinany. I will probably leave up my snowmen and polar bear a month or more later.

I had a friend who had her son and his girlfriend and dogs and cats living with her as well as additional furniture they brought and she never got around to taking it down all year.

As for trees at curbs so early, in some places like the town I used to live in the trash will only collect trees at special times -- not forever.

Re: I am looking forward to things getting back to normal with Christmas over

Common sense tells me that I should take the decorations down on New Year's Day because of other obligations that make January busy. However, the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas flew by and I enjoy the house when it is decorated, so I think it may be on the Martin Luther King holiday when things get put away.

I'm looking forward to getting things back to normal as well. Some years I like leaving decorations up longer than others.
