I don't understand the unlimited sharing that takes place anymore and I wonder what, if any, consequences there will be years down the road.
I don't know about "consequences" of blogging about a trying time in your life, but writing about, and even reading about it, can let the writer and reader know that they are not alone in what they are going through.
Information shared cannot be unshared. Children grow up and will eventually have to cope with all the info shared. Look at the problems so many child actors encounter, and children of celebrities.
I just find these blogs more of the "look at me" syndrome that has evolved through social media.
But what if by writing, they are helping others to know that they are not alone with their their struggles?
That's a good thing in my book.
Isn't that what we're supposed to strive for? To reach out and help our fellow human being?
By blogging, maybe they are doing just that.
Maybe others are getting strength from reading the blog, to make through another day, to not give up, to still have hope, when all seems dark.
Not everyone has the ability to go to a meeting, but still can receive strength and hope by reading, or writing a blog.

Blogging is these people's choice. I'm sure they do it for a variety of reasons, none of which should cause any conflict for you. If you feel "uneasy knowing too much" as you said.....don't read the blog. Pretty simple.
I admire the beauty of the writing...especially Blue4ben (the mom of the boy who died from cancer), but I also think it is narcissistic and self-serving. Sometimes you just have to carry on. Ben's twin doesn't want to visit the grave - why force him go and take pictures of the dirt and place them on the blog?
I admire Jill Kelly's honesty in admitting life with her husband was no bed of roses...but I don't think that her 2 girls would appreciate hearing about their dad's issues...not to mention putting them in a book for the world to see. I also don't see how "finding Jesus" is the answer to all their problems.
I'm not planning on reading anymore of the Jim Kelly stuff...even though it's re-printed on the front page of the paper!
But that's it - it's THEIR problems - and that was the answer THEY found.

So true! There is way too much judging going on here. That's the biggest problem I see on Viewpoints, in general. People never seem to accept that people's opinions and choices are theirs to have and make. No one's is better than the other's. It's just different and personal for everyone.

I don't care if it's self-serving. If it helps the blogger get over the tender pain and emotional trauma of being bedside with a loved one during their struggle to live or die, I applaud it. It's cheaper and more private than working it all out after the fact with a therapist. It's more efficient and productive than the daily/nightly milling of thoughts about what really was or what could have been for days, months and years or until the memories subside onto the back burner of the soul.

Wow you don't understand why finding Jesus has anything to do with it? Its called faith....and maybe their faith told them reaching out to others who have gone thru trying times might relate???

We all deal with life's obstacles in different ways. If finding God, or blogging, or shouting from the rooftop, or just remaining silent helps someone get through a life altering experience, I say who am I to judge?

I like my private affairs to stay private and I don't care to read anyone else's blogs about their private family business. To each his own.

I absolutely don't have an issue with people using their faith to guide them through trying times.
Why would anybody?

it's not a new practice....people have been sharing life trials with others since the beginning of time with words through song, poetry, books, journals, etc. For many it is a way to cope and great form of healing.
