I am Amazed at the response !

I'm sitting here watching the news and it's being reported that more and more volunteers are giving their time to help clean up, provide food, clothing and shelter for the over 5000 people who lost their homes from the Tornado in St. Louis 2 weeks ago. Volunteers from other states like OK and Virginia  and more have boots on the ground. I was not affected, nor was any of my family thank the Lord but I have never seen so much destruction in the city of St. Louis. Our church along with other churches, volunteer organizations, the TV stations, schools etc have been awesome and people have come together to help the many lives affected by the storm.

Thank you to everyone local and from other states who have given their time and God Bless !  If you are in another state and know of volunteers who have come here or will be coming please let them know we appreciate them so much.  I know this is a shopping channel forum but you never know if someone will still get the message and know they are making a difference. Thanks and blessings to you all.

Re: I am Amazed at the response !

There are so many good. kind-hearted people in our country.  I read so many stories of the help coming to the people in North Carolina after that hurricane.  Some stayed for months.

I wish we would hear more stories like this on the news, I think it would lift the spirits of all Americans.

Oklahoma has had more than its share of terrible storms, bombing etc.  And we help one another, and other people help us so we pay it forward.

I would be surprised if the Oklahoma Baptists Disaster volunteers and trucks aren't there somewhere with chain saws, food to distribute, trucks to wash clothes and provide showers for people.  And to give a hug, hope and a prayer when needed.

That might be the volunteer group I was thinking about, not sure but yes the news has reported a group providing services to wash clothes and provide showers.  The news has been very good at reporting everything volunteers are doing on a daily basis.

@Goodie2shoes - We help where we can. I will keep St. Louis in mind. A few months ago we helped a town in Mississippi that had a lot of damage from tornadoes. So many towns have.

I will pray for those who lost their homes, and the response is just indicative of how we can pull together to help when people need others. No one cares what personal "characteristics" everyone has; people just pull together to help and make things better.

Thank you for letting us know about this and letting us see the good in people.

Thank you and everyone for your prayers. 5 people lost their lives and one lady was actually inside her  church working when the roof caved in. People have pulled together like never seen to help so many and many had no home insurance and don't know what they are going to do.

@Goodie2shoes Good  to know. Remember there is a whole list of different topics for these forums, not limited to shopping. Glad you and yours are OK.

Re: I am Amazed at the response !

Most people want to help. We just need a venue to know how and where.

We donated to the Carolinas for months from Georgia after the floods with homemade blankets, winter scarves, gloves, food, and miscellaneous stuff they asked for.

They would give us a wishlist, someone would put it on Facebook, one person was the drop house, and one person with a truck made the trip every week.

It's what we do as human beings when someone asks for help and you have the ability to do so. Glad, but not surprised, there are the same helpers elsewhere. Mr. Rogers would be proud.

I'd like to think there is more good in the world than bad, but sadly, we hear more about the bad.  People always want to help others, but especially when there is great need.  It feels good to do something for someone else and we can each do our own small (or large) part.  Thank you to all the good people in the world.

@Goodie2shoes Might be them or many others.  I know these teams are not usually young folks, and wear bright yellow vests if I remember.

Thank God for all those who do arrive.  I know what a blessing it can be.  A man from somewhere else once said he moved here because he was visiting his daughter, a tornado happened very near by and he said "People with trucks and saws and equipment followed that storm into town!  They were as close behind as they could get!"  He said that was amazing to him--just folks.

There is a lot more of that all over this country that doesn't make the news!  Shameful!
