I SURVIVED THE GREAT POWER OUTAGE OF 2019!

My power was off for LESS than 24 hours.

It went off some time after 1a.m. (that was when I went to bed) and came back on at 11:15 p.m. last night.

I spent most of the day just sleeping, but I did take a rive around town.

Everybody obeyed the law of treating a flashing red stop light as a 4-way stop.

99% of the traffic lights were either out compleatly, or was flashing red.

A lot of businesses were closed.

Restaurants and fast food places - closed.

gas stations - closed

CVS - closed

Rite-Aide - closed

Walgreens - closed

grocery stores - closed

The one business that was doing business like gang busters was a food truck.

There was one gas station that was open, and they had a line three blocks long of people waiting to get gas!

Well, "crisis" over.

Back to life as usual.

The Sky looks different when you have someone you love up there.

That food truck probably made a fortune.  Good thinking on their part.

Glad everyone survived ok

@Desertdi  I wondered about that.  I was thinking it wasn't just a "one and done", sadly.  How I hope and pray they get some rain soon!

Never got shut down in my part of Sonoma county.  Went to pay house taxes yesterday at SR and stop light out, but county bldg. Open. Very few cars on freeway.  Hospital still operating. Friend got MRI.

People who think this is only going to happen in California are deluding themselves. The smug "I wouldn't live there" will certainly come back to bite you. Never sit back on your laurels because climate change is impacting everyone. And power outages, water shortages, fires and flooding are coming to a state near you.

This is not meant to have a critical tone but what you described as surviving a great power outage is not what you survived.

You were most fortunate concerning your circumstance.

It can only be hoped others will have the same fortunate circumstances where they live.

That is very true @bathina .

When Houston goes underwater...again, when  entire towns in  the midwest are leveled by monster tornadoes, when hurricanes wipe out coastal areas in the SE, when the plains are buried under feet of snow and then floods...who will be left to be smug?

Time to stop the ostrich behavior because it is not "them". It is "us".

Never say never. Nebraska and other parts of the midwest flooded. I sincerely hope you dont have to eat your words. Climate change impacts every one of us.
